Elite Riders Championship - 25/09/2014

I'm no marketing expert but my limited knowledge of promotions is that it generally works best when you advertise it.

Thats true I guess most of us only heard about it through word of mouth.

So it wasn't an accident then.. Little point in having an 'offer' if you're not going to promote it.

The idiots have panicked, or put a limit on it.

I was told by a friend it was available till 5pm. Nothing from the bspa about this deal, didnt they release a statement the other day about sky selling tickets? Why not mention it then and state it would be available for 24 hours only?

Buffoons.

Simple as.

I must be losing it because earlier on today I actually had the notion the BSPA were actually going to be 'promoting' the sport. I had visions of a fantastic launch to the season in front of a packed crowd. Something that could be repeated in future years, bring prestige back to the event as well. It could have developed into a traditional curtain raiser to the season, rather like the Daytona 500 in Nascar.. but no, all that would be foolish.

As said, I was a complete fool to believe for one moment the BSPA would do something useful.

Instead they will prefer to serve up a half hearted event in front of a sparse crowd that once again will reinforce the message to the casual viewer... speedway IS NOT the place to be.

spot on....

and how may will now attend and pay 25 quid knowing that the people next to them got in for half that!!!

if someone had true marketing capability they would have planned this offer as part of their overall strategy, made everyone feel they were getting 'a bargain' then sit back and watch a fantastic launch to the season on live tv, with a full house of 'positive' speedway fans who may just start thinking that there is a joined up, well thought out marketing plan to promote the sport and attract fans back into the stadia....

oh well, back to find a drawing board and something to write on it with...

Maybe that's part of the problem of leaving the SKY TV deal announcement so late, coupled with the new early date for the ERC?! All clubs will have done their financial projections for the season to include an amount from each shared event.

The advance ticket deal was clearly something done 'at the last minute' and I guess if too many took up the half price offer, it could have a major quite an effect on their budgets!!!!!!??

In a positive way!!! They could get 1500 paying £25, or god forbid too many take advantage of the offer and they get 5-6000 paying £12.50. Plus accompanying programme sales, food sales etc. Do the maths.

Sadly they are just too blind to see it.

As somebody involved in the promotion of this event would you care to explain to us the rationale behind the BSPA preferring to stage this event in front of a sparse crowd, over a packed out Brandon Stadium?

Judging by the fact the allocated tickets sold out so fast the first day that they had to add more, what makes you think the crowds will be small? Alot of people are likely to have brought them in the 24hours they were £12.50

Absolutely right. People are jumping up & down screaming BSPA cockup yet they may well have shifted 3000 tickets. Wouldn't have taken long once the 1000's got wind of it via Twiiter.

Whether they advertise it as a 24hr promo or not is irrelevant. They've shifted their target amount to make sure it looks good for TV. Well done Sky & the BSPA. Excellent marketing. Maybe those that missed out will be a bit sharper next time

I've always said make speedway cheaper and try and attract more to provide a better atmosphere and in some instances more revenue. Every time I have mentioned this in the past I have been shot down and have been accused of trying to get tracks closed down. Is there now a change of thought here?

That is precisely the point, how big would it have been if the offer had either:-

a: Been promoted

b: Been available for a longer period of time.

There is nothing yet to suggest this was even a genuine idea by the BSPA and not a cock-up.

It's been suggested for tv meetings for a long time.

As a matter of interest, what is the H&S maximum capacity for Brandon? Anyone know for certain?!

I believe it's somewhere around the 12,000 mark. I don't think we need worry though about getting even half of that.
