markyb
What a mess !!! I now fear for the poor Polish track curator who will be blamed and sent back to Poland ! I sincerely apologise for the grief I given you on the coventry bees and coventry Storm forum pages over the last couple of days , I reckon you only following instructions from people who should know better. Pirate Nick
Drum roll.... http://www.speedwaygb.co/news.php?extend.24111 BRITISH Speedway Chairman Alex Harkess has confirmed the BSPA (British Speedway Promoters' Association) are to launch a full investigation into events surrounding the cancellation of the Elite Riders' Championship at Coventry. The meeting was cancelled due to an unfit track - something which Harkess admits was "totally unacceptable".He said: "The first thing to say is to apologise to the many supporters who paid good money to see the event which had a superb line-up."It is also not the start anyone wanted for the start of our new TV deal with Sky Sports."We regret very much what happened but on Saturday morning I had assurances that everything would be fine with the track."I can understand totally the anger of supporters and, of course, we offer our sincere apologies to everyone who was inconvenienced."We will now carry out a full investigation to establish why this totally unacceptable situation was allowed to develop and will comment further when this investigation has been concluded." Sounds like Horton is being lined up as the patsy for this one. Hold your hand up Harkess ultimately the buck stops with you.
Daniel Smith
Drum roll.... http://www.speedwaygb.co/news.php?extend.24111 BRITISH Speedway Chairman Alex Harkess has confirmed the BSPA (British Speedway Promoters' Association) are to launch a full investigation into events surrounding the cancellation of the Elite Riders' Championship at Coventry. The meeting was cancelled due to an unfit track - something which Harkess admits was "totally unacceptable".He said: "The first thing to say is to apologise to the many supporters who paid good money to see the event which had a superb line-up."It is also not the start anyone wanted for the start of our new TV deal with Sky Sports."We regret very much what happened but on Saturday morning I had assurances that everything would be fine with the track."I can understand totally the anger of supporters and, of course, we offer our sincere apologies to everyone who was inconvenienced."We will now carry out a full investigation to establish why this totally unacceptable situation was allowed to develop and will comment further when this investigation has been concluded." So, in all that it must have been Horton that gave the BSPA assurance that the track will be fine. The stadium owners would not be in contact with the BSPA. This does now come back to a Coventry promoters error. Blaming stadium owners does not stand up for me. If Horton is serious for speedway to continue then a renegotiated lease with providing his own track team is the only way forward here or just close the doors now. The stadium owners just are not going to blow money weekly on correct track prep, why should they?
semion
It's all very well for Harkness to offer an apology but what is he and the crest of the BSPA going to do to put matters right ? Let me take a wild stab in the dark, they will do **** all squared. Anyone running a business knows that the customer is King. The BSPA will carry in treating is all like the mug punters we are, while we let them.
kingbee
Hi New to this forum had to comment on the farcical scenes at Coventry this afternoon. Arrived 4.30pm bought programme (£4!!!) sat down and intruiged watching guy on a small roller and 2 guys in water lorries going round and round bedding track in with their tyres only. I've been going speedway 20+ years and enjoy watching track preparation. This was shambolic IMO. Why was there no tractor with wooden platform behind with concrete weight bedding track in? I'm visiting related and been staying in Hinckley past 2 days no rain at all. Why was track prep left to last minute? I'm an avid greyhound fan/owner and really don't think either sport could organise a pee up in a brewery. Past 20yrs speedway I've seen lot worse track raced on. Nobody even went out on a bike to give it a try. Remember Hans Anderson one night leading by example giving it a go. How do we get a refund. Said we can use at another BSP event but whose to say they will be on when I can make it, might be in holiday. Got a programme from today told no refunds available!! Biggest grip is track should be prepared 24 hrs ago and discussion made earlier in time to avoid patrons and riders coming to Coventry. Regards, Lee it pissed down all night in Rugby about 5 miles from stadium
markyb
it pissed down all night in Rugby about 5 miles from stadium It didn't 1.9 miles away in Binley . That is the reason- the Brandon micro climate !!!

AndyK86
BSPA should have got involved but if the Coventry promotion/stadium owners had done enough damage already then not much else BSPA could do except call it off early but that is where Referee comes in also and arrival of riders. It is just one big mess but the main portion of blame does lay with Coventry, they asked for trust to run the event for BSPA and they blew it big time. Starman2006
Well its seems to me the majority on here havn't got a dam clue what they are talking about or what's going on, just waffling like normal. So, lets start with Ronnie Russell and his team who usually prepare the track, where are they, why didn't they prepare it? Did it pee down with rain? Why was the track a shambles and un-racable? and who was preparing it? can anybody actually answer these questions? or are you all just going to overlook this post and carry on waffling like you normally do... I would find this much more convincing if he had said that the investigation would be completed by a certain date. And that date was not movable

Most have been answered. Keep up, In short. So, lets start with Ronnie Russell and his team who usually prepare the track, where are they, why didn't they prepare it? Sandu as the stadium owner was given the rights and only rights to prepare the track. Did it pee down with rain? Not that I am are aware of, but I don't live in the area. Why was the track a shambles and un-racable? and who was preparing it? It was boggy and wet and a Pole with just one days practice was given the job to prepare it. Starman2006
No, that's you. My goodness, you can't even get that right. I do feel really sorry for your carer. Most have been answered. So why was a new man given just a days practice for this event. Sorry I thought it was being held at Swindon.
Deano
So why was a new man given just a days practice for this event. Sorry I thought it was being held at Swindon. Because the BSPA were in charge of the event, that's why. It appears they've given Sandhu a free reign to screw up their business plan for this year. AndyK86
Because the BSPA were in charge of the event, that's why.No because Sandhu brought in a complete idiot of a track curator and Horton allowed that to happen !

So they had to pick a guy off the street.
