Lcalcutt
Hi New to this forum had to comment on the farcical scenes at Coventry this afternoon. Arrived 4.30pm bought programme (£4!!!) sat down and intruiged watching guy on a small roller and 2 guys in water lorries going round and round bedding track in with their tyres only. I've been going speedway 20+ years and enjoy watching track preparation. This was shambolic IMO. Why was there no tractor with wooden platform behind with concrete weight bedding track in? I'm visiting related and been staying in Hinckley past 2 days no rain at all. Why was track prep left to last minute? I'm an avid greyhound fan/owner and really don't think either sport could organise a pee up in a brewery. Past 20yrs speedway I've seen lot worse track raced on. Nobody even went out on a bike to give it a try. Remember Hans Anderson one night leading by example giving it a go. How do we get a refund. Said we can use at another BSP event but whose to say they will be on when I can make it, might be in holiday. Got a programme from today told no refunds available!! Biggest grip is track should be prepared 24 hrs ago and discussion made earlier in time to avoid patrons and riders coming to Coventry. Regards, Lee

The Pedaler
How was the track at Belle Vue raceable last season yet this is called off! Smacks of double standards! I wish the "like" button could be pressed more than once! Not sure how much of this is down to Coventry or Sky's Track Co-ordinator, Ronnie Russell - you know the same Ronnie Russell that oversaw that track at BV v Poole last season??!! markyb
Neil,Watson and mick Horton I must apologise for my posts previously referring to you as muppets- of course you should be laurel and hardy . Bugger all rain to speak of since Friday night and still you failed one of the biggest nights of uk speedway in the year. Await your excuses galore. - but if you employ a stadium announcer, to prepare the track, sorry should read non speaking English, polish track curator -( you sure he is a track curator ! ) then what you expect. No more big meeting for you I'm afraid. Ha ha ha ! What comes around goes aroun You need Big Tractor Man (BTM) like no tomorrow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You helping to kill British speedway - are you on a bonus from the Polish/Swedish/Danish/Russian/German/Scottish/Welsh/Vatican city speedway bosses ? Blazeaway
Is anyone actually surprised by this? That's the most saddening thing.
The Pedaler
And what has happened to the BSPA twitter operator who, this morning, could retweet everything that mentioned ERC, and even went on to tell us the exciting article that would be in the meeting programme...but can't be bothered to tweet the important information that the meeting is off (too embarrassed)? Maybe all the internet activity was causing the BSPA Twitter server to run too slowly?
dorset delight
You would think he would do better if track is really bad as hes used to riding on a ploughing field every week with Poole. You could plant vegetables on that mess of a track Oh the irony Ever heard the phrase people in glass houses
Woz01
Coventry Stadium employ there own staff and have done so for a while. The track man quit 2 weeks ago and was replaced by a Pole who speak no English and can't prepare a track in a couple of days. Sandhu far as I'm aware is still owner of the stadium as from the last I read the sale hadn't been completed. Its a complete farce from the owners. The club and Horton are not to blame for this. Popular Post Gavan
To top it off Middlo is on twitter saying right decision as rider safety comes first! Yeh course it does you clown but you were more than happy to race 10 heats on a totally unrideable track at Belle Vue not giving a monkeys about safety until the league points were in the bag! Man is a clown!
Popular Post NeilWatson
COVENTRY promoter Mick Horton has issued the following statement following the postponement of the Elite Riders’ Championship on Sunday. “I have made the decision today that the teams representing Coventry Speedway will not be taking to the track at Brandon until such time as the stadium bring in the correct and proper track curator to prepare our track. “The track has been totally unacceptable. I am embarrassed and humiliated and I am not prepared to take all of the criticism because this is 100 per cent down to the stadium. “They got rid of our old track curator and brought in a new one and it simply hasn’t worked. I am totally humiliated and can only apologise. “I have told the stadium staff what the situation is – it’s destroying me. We said early this morning that the track should be bladed but they decided to let it dry and pack it, and it was still rubbish. “Television were here and I have taken a lot of criticism, and I know I’m going to get the flak. But I want to make it very clear that this was totally out of my control, this was 100 per cent down to the stadium. “They brought in the track staff and assured Coventry Speedway that this track curator and track staff team was the best that we could get. The rest is history – it has been a total shambles starting on Friday with the Storm match and now on Sunday for a major national event. “There is no way that I will allow a Coventry team on that track until it is correct, and until that time, until it is in a suitable condition to race on, we will decline any further shared events or TV meetings. “In all my years of speedway, this is my lowest moment. I feel absolutely humiliated by something that is totally out of my control.”

mdmc82
They wonder why attendances are dropping. I wonder how many people have arrived already at this stadium after spending money travelling there to get turned away. OK if the track was a mess a couple of days ago it should have been ample time to relay the track. Not good enough. It's an embarrassment! We got there at 5.10, collected our tickets, brought our programme & paid for 50/50 draw. Sat there for 10mins watching as they went round the track and sorted the tapes. Then at 5.20 York was sent out to tell us the meeting was off due to an unfit track due to rain over last couple of days. Since Fri we had few heavy showers yesterday but nothing today so if it wasnt fit to race on at 5pm then it wouldn't have been this morning either. Why leave it so late to call it off. The new person doing the track has had 2 meetings and made a mess of it, what is going to be done about it before Fridays EL meeting? HAMMER57
Meeting called off after all the hype. Not a good start for Cov the sport or people who have sky sports just for the speedway and I hope its not a repeat of last year

Oh dear, if so there will be several on here saying 'We told you so'!!! Greyhounds gone, Speedway ? Developers wanting to move in quickly??
mdmc82
Is this the owners of the stadium trying to get rid of the speedway at stadium sooner rather than later? Not fair on Horton, the riders or the reputation of Coventry bees
