Speedway Best Pairs

Recommended Posts

Why don`t they just tell Ward to be at Eastbourne and honour his contract to British Speedway or do you know that he told Poole before he signed his contract that no way was he going to ride in Britain on May 10th.?

I think the Poole management and Ward would have looked at date clashes within the year and have their strategy in place. Ward values British speedway but also has to satisfy international demands on him, that being either to further his own personal experience at that level or to satisfy sponsors interests. I'm sure he'll ride in more Elite League meetings than is average.

He should be riding in every Poole match bar a clash with an OFFICIAL fixture.

The Best Pairs Challenge is not an official fixture, if he skips a Poole meeting for it he should be banned.

Well even before the final I must take exception to the commentary of Jack whoever.

Don't get me wrong, it is superb that the coverage is given, but who is this sexist?

Continually giving sexist comments about the start girls and giving commentary on a different race that is going on, don't start on the knowledge reference also.

Anyone who ever complained about Skysports presenters or commentary must be livid about this person.

Incidentally the racing was poor and very little passing, much gate and go and occasional mistake by trying too hard by several riders.

Jack Burnicle usually does the World Superbikes and British Superbikes on Eurosport accompanied by Jamie Whitham who does a fair job of keeping him in order.

Never in the history of speedway commentary, has so much been said by someone with so little grasp of what was actually going on. It took them until, the semi-final before the penny dropped that avoiding last place was the key to the competition, and as to knowing what the score was well.....

The Best Pairs is not a sanctioned international championship, so it's not a demand at all. As for doing it to benefit himself or sponsors, well if you decide sign a contract to ride in the British Elite League, then that is what you should be focusing on.

Even by the final they hadn't grasped it. They were convinced one rider would go for the win while another would go for 3rd FFS, we'd just seen Holder and Ward make the final with a 2nd and 3rd in the semi!

Have to say I did enjoy watching speedway but it didnt really provide the best racing, and to be honest the rider who gave us the best entertainment was Smolinski who looks like he could score healthy 6-9's in the GP's with good machinery and riding.

The comentator was poor, but someone needed to tell him that one team are in White and Yellow and the other Red and Blue and stop discribing the bikes. In some of the heats he was quite good, and in what seemed his first speedway meeting he seemed to enjoy himslef.

If you listen to the final again he actually discribes the race quite well, its was a new pairing and give him his due if he has never comentated on speedway before he did quite a good job...If anyone was at Coventry last friday night then I know who I would rather have. #TerryRyan-Daley

Turbo Twins at it again tho as they seemed the only team to be riding as a pair...Hence why they won a pairs meeting!

Pity GB arent in it. Every other country seams to be sending a team yet the BSPA are against it. Its on British Eurosport yet the British supporters are deprived to support our nation.BSPA should hang their heads in shame. No wonder we are behind other nations where speedway is concerned.

Yep the commentary was bad, loads of scope for improvement ha

Of course the Aussies looked out for each other, it's what they do and they deserved the win :-) Would have liked to have seen NKI allowed off the white line by Nicki in the final, feel that he could have got Holder, don't expect Nicki to give anyone an inch though grrr Was so pleased to see Holder give Nicki some of the same treatment he dishes out, even though it led to exclusion, Nicki is such a beeeeeep ....

Thought that was a pretty good meeting. Poor Jack Burnicle, he's good at BSB & WSB, makes the odd mistake now & again; but doesn't have a speedway background.

My favourite quote of his was just before the racing started and the teams were listed, "Here are the team points, which are absolutely nothing"

Definitely got the hang of it by the last heat though: "How fast could Darcy Ward go around this track if he wasn't spending all his time looking backwards, waving at his teammate. What an extraordinary performance!" - My sentiments exactly; without Darcy this meeting would've been pretty average

I thought when they had the contracts agreed and signed they take some of these events into account. If not I agree that Ward should be riding for Poole.

Very enjoyable meeting. Commentary was a hugely funny addition to the enjoyment. Jack getting a lot of criticism from the "Speedway is a serious sport and how dare anyone not have an encyclopaedic knowledge of it" brigade but a bit of light relief never hurt anyone.

The real negative about the meeting and its presentation was the lack of a GB pair. Even during some dark pre 70's days we did always compete.

Looking forward to the next round - Jack and all.

Having slept on it, I have revised my opinion of Jack (cant remember his name). At first I loved his irreverant attitude and to be fair he stayed with that. Far better than brown nosing. His knowledge was remarkably good, he'd obviously done his homework and he did not repeat himself ad nauseum. I assume they were in a little room watching the feed as were the rest of us, so I can forgive any confusion re riders to a certain extent. Also I thought the graphics themselves were very poor so getting the scores wrong was maybe understandable. How often have we all written one down wrong and if no one corrects it it just carries on. All the comments about world champs/world pairs etc I guess was in his remit from Eurosport trying to give some gravitas to what essentially is a challenge series. On the plus side, he didn't shout :approve: , he didn't repeatedly trot out random facts like "born in Mildura" and he didn't seem to take things too seriously. All in all for a first go at something he obviously wasn't familiar with he didn't do too badly.

Ermolenko on the other hand was as diabolical as ever. His mangling of the English language is atrocious. Whilst his "technical" explanations might be welcomed by some, they completely go whoosh with me, even if I could understand them. If he ever constucted and finished a sentence it would be a miracle. I'm really not sure what if anything he adds to the programme.

Overall give Jack another go, preferably with a co commentator who can actually do the job and with time might rival or surpass Pearson. I seem to recall that Nicholls and the other Eurosport guy were given some hammer after their first effort but IMHO now do a fairly decent job.

Yawn.

What were his 'sexist' comments then? That they looked nice?

You might not be aware, that's their job.

It's not his job at all (and hope we never have to hear him again, cringeworthy). In these PC times we now live in I'd be surprised if he's not sacked after some of those comments. You must have had the sound down. It doesn't bother me, he is probably only saying what many of us are thinking but we wont offend anyone with our thoughts 😜😝😛
