Who Was The Best Rider In The World In 2013?

Tai by a mile followed by Emil. After those two stand-outs I would go for Holder who was doing well when he got injured followed by Hampel, Iversen and then Ward.

Next season may be a different story though...

I'm not going on opinion. My opinion is that Darcy Ward is the most talented motorcyclist out there but he isn't yet the better all round package. The stats show he isn't that's all. Jimmy White and Alex Higgins were far more talented than Steve Davis but won nowhere near as much and Ward could be in that bracket or he could win in 2014 but gating attitude and not to over ride are 3 areas he has to work on. No doubt about it Ward is the most exciting rider to watch and you would gladly pay to watch him but it doesn't make you the best

i started this thread to get the topic off the Poole thread. One Poole fan said only 2 people think Tai had a better year and I wanted to see if that was true or if as usual he was talking rubbish

Goes to show that entertainers and achievers can be two different creatures. History will always record the achievers however..

Hampel wasn't that high last year. He gained massively from injury to Emil, Ward and Holder. if I had to list a top 5 it would be Woffy, Emil, Ward, Holder, Hampel. And there was not much more than a gnatts testicle between the top 4 IMO, certainly the closest top 4 I can ever remember there being. Now Hampel is clearly fit and back to his best and Puks had a year back to get into the swing of things I think we have a great season to look forward too and lets not forget Nicki and Greg too. I honestly think this year podium is the hardest to predict in a long time (mind you, none of us predicted Woffy last year!)

Spoilers from this season. Their time has gone.

We said that about Greg a few years ago though didn't we? The guy can still gate like nobody else. As for Nicki, give him a sniff of victory and you'll get some rubbish or bust moves. It wasn't that long ago it went down to the wire between him and Holder for a title. Only spoilers maybe and probably not favourites for the title but certainly more than capable of podium finishes.

No you are not. You are trying to ram your opinion down someone elses throat who doesn't follow your script.

Gavan was hoping/expecting everyone to say Tai. Now that has failed he is criticising other posters opinion.

By the way, Ward by a mile.

.

no you are the one who tries and fails to force opinion. All I can do is point the facts and if people ignore them that's up to them but to totally disregard them is just plain daft. Some on here have put 5 riders ahead of Ward you must be going crazy waving your arms about at that but yet you just pick on mine and brums posts all the time like a broken record. To say Ward us miles ahead just proves what we all thought. Ward could win this year then you will have a case. Talent doesn't always equal the best or most successful except in your blinkered world otherwise Kelly Moran Joe Screen and Mark Loram as examples would have won an awful lot more

True, you rarely get riders winning World Titles in their latter years of their career. PMFSL

no point discussing with Shovlar is there Brum! Lives in his own little blue and white world and isn't exactly what you would call a knowledgable speedway fan

As I mentioned on the pirates thread, alot comes down to consistency, machinery and luck. When I say tai was luckier, I am leaning more to the fact that he was able to continue racing with his injuries, whilst holder, ward and emil were not. Perhaps even push it to the Prague gp when emil hit the tapes in the final and pretty much gifted tai the win in that round, but perhaps that's being a pit pedantic?

Still, nothing can be taken away from tai as he finished first overall and made alot of people eat humble pie in the process. That's speedway!
