Gavan
The thread is who was the worlds best rider in 2013. Quite clearly on all facts it's not Darcy Ward. He needs to improve this year to overtake Tai. Nobody is saying he can't do that. It's nothing to do with who you want to watch and for what it's worth I would rather watch Ward then Woffinden but we are not talking entertainment here are we but results and Tai is ahead that's not even opinion. Keep trying to twist it blue tints but not one if you has said Tai was the better rider last year which shows how biased you are on here It would have nothing to do with this thread.. as 2014 is a different year to 2013. Its not a fag paper either. In the GP's Tai edged Darcy on pts per round. The the EL he comfortably outscored him and in Poland he outscored him even more comprehensively.best post on this thread. Trouble is that some argue that Darcy will win it 2014 as there proof. This is about 2013 and as proved its one way traffic unless you are from Poole where they can't admit anything that isn't in their clubs favour. For what it's worth I think Holdet will finish above Ward this year and unless Darcy has sorted out his attitude like Tai did and can actually learn to gate on slicker tracks then I feel top 3 is best he can hope for

And correct nobody predicted Tai's season but what that has to do with the topic I don't know as we are saying Darcy IS a potential world champ but he needs to change a lot if things mainly grow up a but both on and off the bike just like Holdet and Tai have done.

Grachan
Not sure if this is a genuine discussion or just people trying to have a go at Poole, but for what it's worth this is what I think. It's a bit of a transitional time at the moment and the new breed of youngsters are vying for position. We've had Chris Holder and Tai Woffinden winning. Emil, Darcy and Jarek haven't won a title. Until they have done that, then they can't have a genuine claim to be best in the world. League averages don't mean much. Hans Nielsen was far far better than Erik Gundersen in league meetings, but in terms of all time greatness they are equals because of Gundersen's world championship record. Riders like Tommy Knudsen, Phil Crump and Leigh Adams were probably more accomplished than Gary Havelock or Mark Loram. but in Worl;d terms they never achieved the ultimate goal so will never be all time greats when such things are discussed At the end of the day, it's World titles that matter. It's early days but you have to go with Tai this year bearing in mind Chris Holder missed so much of the season. Darcy may or may not get there too, but at the moment he's not proved he can win the World Championship so you can't say he is best in the World no matter how good he is in league meetings. BWitcher
How many EL meetings have you seen LIVE in the last twenty four months?. Is it a different score when its live? Do they race differently? I always thought when you watched a recording you were seeing the same events, perhaps you know different? I'm failing to see your point, although I would be pretty confident I've seen speedway on more tracks in the UK in the last 2 years than you have, not that it has any relevance again to the topic. stevebrum
massive difference between the two in 2013 i see...... about a fag paper i reckon. . True, but in favour of the World champ ;-) It would have nothing to do with this thread.. as 2014 is a different year to 2013. Its not a fag paper either. In the GP's Tai edged Darcy on pts per round. In the EL he comfortably outscored him and in Poland he outscored him even more comprehensively. But in Poole language ...... Darcy is still the best , by miles . Not sure if this is a genuine discussion or just people trying to have a go at Poole, but for what it's worth this is what I think. Its nothing to do with having a go at Poole. In fact its Pooleites that are trying to turn the obvious into something about Poole and Ward! The stats show the evidence from a GP and league perspective. The rest is just opinion.

Fromafar
Based on?I think that is why the monthly Match Race Challenges in speedway were so intriguing and drew large crowds.
BWitcher
Same as having a punt on a horse or a footie match ... gut feel. I'd back Woffinden all day long. Faster from the gate and after that he's gone.

Gavan
Because a match race would decide who is best I don't think so! In races there's 4 riders so if as usual Ward missed it he may be 3rd Or 4th into the first bend and Tai would be gone. Just the 2 of them and Darcy will be in his back wheel out if the 2nd bend and with his talent could pass Tai though that is certainly not a guarantee. What I find hilarious is how Shovlar commented on page 2 of this thread how me and Brum were wrong and that people didn't agree. 8 pages of almost every fan saying Tai was better last year and the troll is back under his bridge! What are you babbling on about again Sidney? It doesn' t matter where you were, in 2013 Woffinden was better than Ward. It matters not one iota how many meetings you attended live, that doesn't change a result anywhere. Woffinden is still World Champion, No 1 in the averages in the EL (ahead of Ward) and well ahead of Ward in the Polish League. I've asked you what relevance to this debate how many 'live meetings' I've been to in the last 2 years has anything to do with it. I can guarantee I have seen Woffinden in live meetings more than you in the last 2 years and I wouldn't be surprised if I have seen Ward more too... but until you give some reason for your question I still fail to see the relevance.
