SCB
When I was working in Cardiff (would be around 1965/66), there was an athletics venue in the City called the Maindy Stadium which looked quite suitable for speedway when I went and had a look at it. Is this stadium still there I wonder? Speaking about speedway with the people I was working with, the general view was that Cardiff Speedway was a "good night out" but they all thought that the old Penarth Road track was too far out of the City and not very well served by bus routes (although it didn't seem to be too far to me when I walked to it from my hotel near the railway station.) I did locate the Penarth Road site and the place was in a very sorry state with the grass head high and just a couple of surviving huts with their roof's collapsed in, and the only visible relic was the concrete starting grid. Maindy Stadium is now Maindy Baths! But right behind it is a great oval layout! https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Maindy+Centre/@51.4968475,-3.190269,315m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x22b37417e8f8465e!8m2!3d51.4966011!4d-3.1913591 And this is the Penarth Road track these days. A road called stadium Close, you're looking at what would have been the 3rd/4th bend. And you're right, it's easily wakable from the centre, obvioulsy people were lazy in the 50s I make it about 1.5 miles so a 30-45 minute walk. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150776513881539&set=a.113700686538.127405.700656538&type=3&theater
