john birch
All part of pathetic attempt to reduce immigration. We can,t stop Eastern Europeans coming here so we stop commonwealth citizens instead. Who are not likely to claim benefits and are likely to put a British tax disc on their vans. Anyone with any common sense should vote Ukip. (incidentally my employer has started asking us all to prove we have the right to work in the UK - you can't make it up!)

Also looks under the tier 5 visa he can exit and enter the UK as many times as he wishes provided his "UK based sponsors" issue a "multiple entry certificate of sponsorship". Well with a passport and NI number that should not take you 5 minutes. It suggests your employer does not pay below the minimum wage and does pay, at least some, UK tax. Perhaps you should also visit Australia and see the restrictions put on YOU. I feel UKIP are where half the Tories would like to be, but value their MP salary and expenses too much. One concession, I would have a pint with Mr Farage, and I dont think he'd give an honour to a hairdresser who attempts to cover his bald spot!
Humphrey Appleby
Anyone with any common sense should vote Ukip. Why would UKIP be any more likely to make it easier to let Commonwealth immigrants in? It was UKIP-types that initiated the original restrictions on Commonwealth citizens years ago, when previously they had total freedom to come to the UK. orderly
If European riders can enter Britain and ride without a visa then why do the aussies & kiwis need a visa when they are commonwealth Countries and our Queen is still the reigning monarch of Great Britain and all the commonwealth countries

They don't offer allow British citizens to go and work there unrestricted, so why would they expect the same the other way? I don't see what the Queen has to do with it, not that she's the reigning monarch of all Commonwealth countries anyway (e.g. South Africa).

Eh? Didn't South Africa get tossed out the Commonwealth about fifty years ago? Harold MacMillan's "wind of change" speech, and all that? bendover
Eh? Didn't South Africa get tossed out the Commonwealth about fifty years ago? Harold MacMillan's "wind of change" speech, and all that? Re-admitted in 1994, after its first fully democratic election. There's some interesting reading on Wikipedia - "Using the EU as a template, a movement in some member states seeks to establish a Commonwealth Union(CU) through the creation of a free trade area, visa-free travel area, common foreign policy, and representation at the UN" Edited February 12, 2014 by bendover

Humphrey Appleby
Re-admitted after the fall of the white minority government and apartheid. There were republics in the Commonwealth even before that point - not least India. There's some interesting reading on Wikipedia - "Using the EU as a template, a movement in some member states seeks to establish a Commonwealth Union(CU) through the creation of a free trade area, visa-free travel area, common foreign policy, and representation at the UN" The Commonwealth was one of the first political unions with common citizenship and free movement, but various nationalist movements wanted to break that up. It would have made sense for the likes of the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand to have maintained that, but that time has gone and the world has moved on. There's not really any serious movement to move back in that direction globally, although there are regional EU-type initiatives amongst the Commonwealth countries in the Caribbean, Far East and possibly Africa as well. RobMcCaffery
Time we looked to our FRIENDS and not that misbegotten set of crooks in Europe. I have no problem with Europeans Ian - had less problems over the years than with Aussies to be honest. Europe's a big place and a lot of people. I need to know a few million more before I can get a representative sample to make a proper judgement though. I do prefer to judge people as individuals, even those from Dorset. Can we stick to speedway please? There's nothing more likely to poison a good discussion than politics (and religion - but let's not drag Rayleigh Rockets into the conversation....)
