Nothing to do with immigration! This sort of attitude shows how the dumbing down by the Daily Mail is having such a dramatic effect :(

Please explain what the Daily Mail has to do with anything. I don't understand your comment.

You say this has nothing to do with immigration? I suggest you read the opening paragraph here: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/working/

It could but what makes being a Speedway rider any differente then anyone else looking to come to Britain to work, if you involve MPs in visa problems, you will open it up to everyone who has had a visa turned down, and i don't think any MP will want to get involved with such a potentially massive issue that will involve much more than Speedway riders, to single them out from anyone else, would i feel be wrong, and any MP doing his job i feel might see it the same way.

A few weeks ago we were told that a group of MPs would be helping speedway, could they not play a part in sorting out this mess?

As you say it's a group of MP's not an individual one, that is exactly what they are paid to do. If the group of MP's failed to take this up if requested to do so by the BSPA then i really fail to understand why there is any link at all

Maybe what's happened has come about because of publc pressure, about the number of foreigners coming over and stealing our jobs and abusing our benefits system !!! The Government has said that it will have tighter control on imigration, and maybe they have, and starting in alphabetical order are being seen to be doing something, and obviously Austrailian's are getting looked at early. The other man must be looking at Afghanistan, :-)...

Which, might be handy if your from Poland, or Romania and you could be way down the que,,, and if your Ukrainian, your just laughing all the way,,, just a thought, lol

That's it!! You've got it. :t:

A quick call to the Commonwealth Office. "Hello - Please change the name of Australia to Zanzibar. Thank you very much". :t::approve: :approve: B)

The BSPA probably can't afford the 'fees'

When it comes to a member of our great Parliament doing anything. There is always a 'fee'

Can't believe you would suggest that MP's might want a fee!

Obviously expenses would have to be covered, something in the region of a years mortgage payments and a nice holiday should cover that.

We obviously have the same view of our Elected Representatives. :t::rofl:

Surely. Speedway riders could say that they fall into one of the below categories and not need to get a Visa to work. After all it is the government who have made these silly rules. High-value migrants

Investors, entrepreneurs and exceptionally talented people can apply to enter or stay in the UK without needing a job offer - but you will need to pass a points-based assessment.

Skilled workers

If you have been offered a skilled job in the UK and your prospective employer is willing to sponsor you, you can apply to come or remain here to do that job.

Temporary workers

If an employer in the UK is willing to sponsor you, or if you are a national of a country that participates in the youth mobility scheme, you may be eligible to come and work in the UK for a short period.

I'm not sure that you realise what you are providing links to.

Those pages are the rules governing who qualifies for a visa, not a list of people who don't need a visa.

Speedway riders from outside the EU receive the "Tier 2 Skilled Workers (sportsperson)" visas that you linked to above.

The government has made the silly rules because the public demands they do something about immigration (or migrant workers). The reality is that when you apply knee-jerk solutions to knee-jerk reactions, this is what you'll end up with.

I'm not entirely convinced speedway riders should all be considered high-skill migrants anyway. I think it could be argued that British riders could fill many of the vacant positions, and speedway riders are certainly not essential to British industry.

My own personal view is there should be freedom of movement between Australia/NZ and the UK anyway, but if people on the one hand want more restrictions, then I don't see any compelling reasons why speedway should be exempt.
