Starman2006
Wow. Those 100+ letters , phone calls , emails and discussions must have been a figment of my imagination. Tell me, what's it like to be perfect ? Perhaps you need to cut down a few more Tree's, and buy an Umbrella...
stratton
You're getting it all wrong. Just say you're from Poole speedway, they have all the best sponsors who are quite literally falling over themselves to throw money at the club. At least that's what a couple of posters on here are always telling us. Quite right, in one of the most attractive places in Britain and it is a wonderful area. But what are they're real competition?Poole FC ( doing well) and Bournemouth Fc that's it i would be worried if they can't attract support.I am not Knocking Ford as he is one hell of a promoter but if we are honest Ford only worries about himself. And not the overall picture of British speedway a win at ALL COSTS mentality nothing else matters.

And the gauling thing is, he goes find the sponsorship, he doesn't sit on his backside waiting for the phone to ring, and he looks after his sponsors very well, He also signs good riders, and finds good riders, we also have a very well run club, from the bottom to the top, that does help.. But he is also ruthless. He's a very good businessman and promoter.. We also have a very good Team Manager, who is highly respected by many riders.

ColinMills
I am no ford fan, I just admire what he has achieved..who wudda brought greg hancock in with the wage he clearly commands..what promoters would of taken that gamble? winning equals sponsorship---larger crowds---more sky air time.---.trophies----atmosphere in stadium---bigger crowd attendance to any track they visit----which mean bigger income for YOUR club

Bryn
I'm on the point of giving up with you lot on here! I pose a question that I hoped would provoke some interest at the start of a new year and it sure did by soon developing, as I might have anticipated I suppose, into yet another would-be battle between those intent on slagging Poole off versus those determined to defend Poole to the hilt, both sets effectively saying "blow everything and everyone else!"

The trend you describe happens increasingly on the BSF these days, not only in regard to Poole but most threads. As has also been pointed out - and rightly so - despite my criticisms of the trend I have also been guilty of this, especially elsewhere in regard to cycle speedway and ice hockey! But I do agree Bryn - the trend is disappointing. You have every right to be annoyed when you see a good topic like this rapidly degenerate. ColinMills
I suppose id hope for better racing on sky nights woffy retaining title winning world cup since 89 would be nice (optimistic here, but very few would of picked woffy this yr) track covers to prevent rain offs tac sub when 6 down re-introduced better sound systems at some tracks
Daniel Smith
Regarding the question, my hope is simple. The racing is going to be better, the riders remain healthy and I'm sure as hell going to enjoy my speedway. My hope for 2014 is that you take a leaf out of Bryn's book. Less is more. He may not post as much these days, but when he does, it makes sense. You post all the time, and it's always crap. Guest
That when posting messages on the BSF forum we all recall the renowned quote by Voltaire: "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." I do a fair bit of work in various racing disciplines and use forums for info. I've yet to come across a race related forum that is as dire as this one. Hydrobob - Posts of the type you refer to may well also be a good reason why promoters and others involved in speedway organisation do not take the British Speedway Forum seriously. It's a sad state of affairs but as another saying goes - something like this - "...don't let the b++++++s grind you down!" This nastiness should have been sent by PM , so the rest of us didn't have to read it . Totally over the top and uncalled for The trend you describe happens increasingly on the BSF these days, not only in regard to Poole but most threads. I've scoured the ice hockey thread , Gustix , and i see no digressions or anything inflamatory . Back to the topic at hand . Halifaxtiger summed it up , good weather and well prepared racetracks . We don't need much more than that to give us an entertaining experience at the speedway
Guest
Dear me . This nastiness should have been sent by PM , so the rest of us didn't have to read it . Totally over the top and uncalled for I've scoured the ice hockey thread , Gustix , and i see no digressions or anything inflamatory . It was in General Discussions in regard to the British Ice Hockey League. I joined in the general discussion and mentioned some old time teams and players. I also commented on Streatham Redskins which seems to have "caused offence." In cycle speedway I endeavoured to stimulate some debate by mentioning and linking a couple of items that have appeared on that sport's 'The Spokesman' website. It would appear that activities of this kind even on a discussion forum should not be initiated without a previous request for such data by another forum member - at least that's the way I see it. Thanks for your own viewpoint. A pity all this has to be aired in Bryn's excellent topic. Edited January 3, 2014 by Guest
