TonyMac
Can anyone please help with cine footage from Wembley Lions' last era (1970-71)? We would obviously pay to have the footage converted to DVD format and provide a complimentary copy of our forthcoming Memories of Wembley Lions DVD. If you have any footage, or can put us in touch with someone who does, please email me at editorial@retro-speedway.com. I was amazed to recently discover lots of good quality colour footage taken at Wimbledon in the 60s, much of which is featured on our new Memories of Wimbledon Speedway DVD. There must be something of the Lions in action gathering dust in someone's loft or garage? Many thanks. Tony Mac
cityrebel
Hi tony, i went to most of the wembley home meetings for those two seasons including the reopener against hackney, complete with billy smart's 'live' lions. As you know i Am a big collector of all things london speedway, but i have never seen any footage from the 1970's era. I presume the local media must have covered it, the return of league racing to wembley was headline news at the time.

daveallan81
30th May 1970, Wembley v Hackney, British League Div. 1. Lions won 41-37. It was match 6 before the Dons rolled up, 4th July, the Lions again winning by the same scoreline. Wasn't there 70/71 footage on the History of Speedway/Wembley video from several years ago? My Father and a car load of friends, including Shaledodger, came down for the opening and it was against Hackney. Ronnie Moore of Wimbledon raced in the 2nd half, however.
