Grachan
Not so. It's just that facts and figures give credence to things and finally wraps up what has taken place. Producing these would give more substance to the Minority Sports Person event. Facts and figures are the life-blood of these contests - it allows people to see how much interest was shown overall, not only for the winner, but the other contestants involved and what sort of challenge there was for the top place. Your comment "slightly peeved that a speedway rider has actually won some sort of award. It must be hard for you." Sheer BSF-style speculation on your part. And I have been around long enough to understand what the word "minority" means. Editing out the words "but you come across as" because they invalidate your comment about speculation. Sheer BSF-style selective editing on your part.
moxey63
A question I'd like to offer as we head towards the season of good cheer: If speedway fans oppose the so-called labelling of speedway as a minority sport by the BBC - then why do they feel true glee at BT Sport (a minority channel) giving GP winner (Tai Woffinden) their Minority Sports Personality? Grachan
However, it does not detract from MY VIEW that voting figures are needed to give this event the credibility that you - and others - attach to it. Does it really need that much credibility though? It's just a vote put together by a tv show. It's not really a big deal. Nevertheless, it's still nice to see that Tai won it.
Guest
You seem determined to knock this. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but you come across as slightly peeved that a speedway rider has actually won some sort of award. It must be hard for you. That's very fair comment in regard to my deletion of the words "but you come across as" - but I still think actual votes cast need to be publicied to give validity to the Poll. Does it really need that much credibility though? It's just a vote put together by a tv show. It's not really a big deal. Nevertheless, it's still nice to see that Tai won it. Yes, voting figures are needed. What worth is the Poll if only 20 people actually voted?
SCB
A question I'd like to offer as we head towards the season of good cheer: If speedway fans oppose the so-called labelling of speedway as a minority sport by the BBC - then why do they feel true glee at BT Sport (a minority channel) giving GP winner (Tai Woffinden) their Minority Sports Personality? I have no issue with the sport being labeled a minority sport, because that is what it is. The sport gets all the coverage is deserves from the BBC. And he claims to have been a journalist in the olden days. Can you imagine the headlines in his paper? "Ove Fundin claims to have won the World Title, but they moved it to Malmo this year and I don't believe it until someone from the track tells me exactly what happened...but I don't know the dialling code for Sweden and no one will tell me the dialling code, so it didn't happen [fingers in ears] la la la la [/fingers in ears]"

Star Lady
No amount of Google research and elsewhere has revealed the number of votes each candidate received. If the result is to have any credence these figures are crucial to show the amount of interest for the BT Minority Sports Of The Year contest. Totally off topic but is the result of Strictly Come Dancing any less credible because the BBC refuse to issue voting figures? The answer is no except to those sad cases that want to make an issue of it.

I actually saw it happen in Malmo, Sweden, on 15 September 1961. But what has this to do with the amount of votes casr for the BT Minority Sports event. Are you trying to move the goalposts? (so to speak). Edited December 23, 2013 by Guest

I don't recall any contributions by you to the award winning 'South London Press" (many times in fact) in the years I was there. A big Woooooosh. Were you at Malmo as well in 1961? John Leslie
An even bigger WOOOSH. How big? I refuse to accept this Woosh as "bigger" until an independent auditor confirms the size of the previous woosh. And I don't know any auditors, and I cannot google for one as I am not a member of google and refuse to be.

It seems that some people are too busy making silly non-topic comments to answer bona-fide queries. I am used to these sort of people. There was a time when I was the letters editor at a local newspaper and we used to get similar letters. They were always "quickly filed" - in the waste paper bin. One usually finds when these sort of comments start appearing it indicates that the perpetrators are losing their argument and attempting to move away from what the debate is all about. Usually by attacking the Poster rather than the Post.

Were you at Malmo as well in 1961? You talk of these "awards" but I have been unable (despite exhaustive research) to find any confirmation of what these "awards" were and the relevant voting results. For all we know they were the result of an arbitary panel handing out the "award" without any public vote, rendering them largely worthless. Some more information and a pointer towards the published results of any such polls would be much appreciated. Maybe you could start a seperate thread so as not to cause any confusion with the BT Minority Sports award?

I am sure they will be able to help you. http://www.southlondonpress.co.uk/searchresult.cfm?cat=News or at this Link. http://www.southlondonpress.co.uk/contact.cfm To be honest, it seems you and others have really lost the way in regard to how many votes were cast in the the BT Minority Sports Person Poll and are just desperately trying to deflect away from the real topic: how many votes were cast. But then, deviation from real topics are not unusual on the BSF - a reason why those who govern the sport take so little notice of what is put up on here, even when some of the comments are really meaningful and worthy of consideration. So far as the newspaper awards are concerned they are decided by a panel of editors and publishers, not by votes from readers. Now - do you know how many votes were cast in the BT Minority Sports Person poll? Edited December 23, 2013 by Guest
salty
Why don't you try this link then? https://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact#h=eyJzdGVwMCI6ImNvbnRhY3RJdGVtTGluazU2NDIiLCJzdGVwSWR4IjowfQ As Bryn mentioned yesterday the logical step for you to take in your crusade to ascertain the voting figures would be to contact BT themselves. John Leslie
Now - do you know how many votes were cast in the BT Minority Sports Person poll? No. Ask BT Sport. Now do you know how many votes were cast in these unconfirmed South London Press awards, or even what the awards were, which year/century they were made,or which body organised the awards?
