Tsunami
Having been away some time minus a lap-top and not bothering with internet cafes, I haven't read every thread on this forum so, instead of shouting reserves won't ride against the top guys how about saying 'this won't happen because this IS happening' rather then 'it won't happen because this ISN'T happening'. Reserves have taken the rides of injured riders in the past so presumably this is no longer the case and an alternative rule has come in to cover R/R for the third fourth and fifth average riders. Correct You're talking about British mentality kids here who think they'd made it when they get a van with their name on the side, and extra practice would only take up valuable drinking time and talking to girls. Practice does not make perfect if they haven't got the real talent in the first place. Is the objective a WTC squad or EL full of British 6 pointers? Can you provide a link that astounding statement. IF that was true, no need for Brits, just go into the abyss with expensive foreigners. Some will never make it but even if most do we at least have a cache of 6 pointers who are Brits. Out of that lot we might even have a World Champion. OK, maybe over egging that, as that is never going to happen is it. Oh, hang on……….. Whilst you expected me to examples of it working, have YOU any links to it NOT working somewhere. Links no but I have heard Pearson & co banging on every season about our potential WTC squad everytime Bridger, Howe,Stead, King etc etc win a race. You know the one's picking up tips from being around quality riders and having plenty of rides. They were EL/NL level in the beginning and are now solidly average. If your model for British speedway is cheap but International wilderness then good on you, you should join the BSPA. Yes a Havelock. Loram, Woffinden might come out of the woodwork but will the British speedway paying public be happy to subsidise it? Time will tell. If we produce a raft of 6 pointers, who can hold their own in the WTC, that will do for me for the time being. Perhaps you have expectations above reality. The reality is that if our lord and masters had had a clue over the last 10 or more years and not year on year built to the lowest common denominator then your expectations might be somewhat higher. What is it with Panthers? Haven't you got your own thread or do you p' off everyone on there as well! Vincent Blachshadow
I'm a bit like you, can't be arsed either. Is that your way of saying there isn't one? Unlike you, I can be arsed. I've looked at the SCB page and they're still running on 2013 rules. The BSPA site tells us nothing. The only reference I can see mentions they'll be protected in 'programmed rides' but doesn't mention injuries higher up the order or R/R. So, is there anywhere telling us about these alternatives or is it still merely a work in progress? NeilWatson
Lewis Blackbird is relieved and delighted in equal measure after finally being handed the chance to ride for Panthers. The 26 year-old will slot into the middle order of the new-look city side for Premier League racing in 2014 on a 4.81 average. Blackbird, who will also ride in the Elite League for Eastbourne after being part of the reserve draft introduced for 2014, has no shortage of local links. He was born in the city, spent his early years at Weston Hills, near Spalding, and is now based at Witcham, near Chatteris. And he is following in some familiar tyre tracks in signing on the dotted line at the East of England Showground. Uncles Mark (a part of a title-winning Panthers team in 1992) and Phil both rode for the club while his father, Carl, was also a racer. Blackbird said: “I’ve always wanted to ride for Peterborough and it’s brilliant to get the chance. “I thought I may have missed out as Panthers pulled out of the Elite League in the year in which I now have the chance to ride in it. “But I’ve been in touch with Trevor (co-promoter Swales) all winter and asked him to bear me in mind. He said I was in the club’s plans regardless of whether they raced in the Premier or National leagues. “I’ve turned down a few other clubs because I had my heart set on coming to Peterborough, so it is great that everything has worked out. “This will only be my fourth season in speedway but the clock is ticking and I’m putting everything I possibly can into making it a success.” Blackbird has starred for Mildenhall and Dudley during the two clubs’ successes at National League level in the last two seasons. He has also proved himself a handy customer at Premier League level with Leicester and Scunthorpe in the past year when delivered some impressive displays at reserve. But Blackbird knows he will have to step up again on that form when operating in the main body of the Panthers septet. He added: “Being in the main body of a Premier League side is a new thing for me, but I’m confident I can handle it.” www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk Edited December 24, 2013 by NeilWatson
