I just didn't agree with this: "Being in the presence of top riders, seeing how they perform and being given advice should accelerate their progress. The more a rider rides, he has more opportunities to improve." They've been in the presence of top riders for years but if thety haven't got it then they haven't got it and more rides isn't going to make much difference. The way to progress to the top. if good enough, is to progress with confidence through the league structure. I've not seen the format yet so am talking without vital info but I wondered who it has usually worked on?

Lets support the new management, & enjoy the fact we have still got speedway at the Showground. The reason we are in this mess is because we didn't have enough people through the turnstiles over the last few seasons. Mick Horton must wonder why he bothered if he reads this forum.

Assume you're a 2006 starter?

Yes we are pleased to have speedway. Why haven't the people been coming through the turnstiles? Bearing in mind his previous experiences at the EoES one wonders why he wants more of that? Can't see that much has changed apart from PL might be a cheaper and better option, and that these EoES people might be easier to work with than they were last time around?

If nothing else they are getting more rides in. Being in the presence of top riders, seeing how they perform and being given advice should accelerate their progress. The more a rider rides, he has more opportunities to improve. Doesn't work with everyone, but it usually works.

Can't agree I'm afraid ,more rides means more expense in maintenance cost ,the main advice they will get from Top men is invest in better equipment!! The standard of the riders in question is just not good enough IMO.they will be under affair bit of pressure to perform .Promoters will soon get fed up with getting beaten due to poor reserves when they are paying a fortune to the Top men and getting poor results which might affect business

Much rather watch everyone ride against each other.

And what examples of this usually working would you put forward?

Both in Poland and Denmark youngsters get time on track that we can't get in this country. The more track time a kid gets he improves faster. Remember the saying "practice makes perfect". Works with most things BTW.

I think a similar youth development scheme might work in the premier league but not in the elite league. Its just a recipe for some boring races. Darcy ward versus josh bates, edge of your seat stuff. Some of the riders are not even good enough for the PL never mind the EL. I imagine the race format will be similar to Sweden where there are 2 reserves races.

For the umpteenth time, for your and Vincent's eyes, read the rules. RESERVES DON"T RACE AGAINST THE TOP MAN. Is that clear now ?

Quite. They'll race each other, something like heat 2, heat 8 and heat 12 with races in other heats when necessary. Sort of Elite 'development' heats but with the points counting towards an Elite League match. They'll get extra rides, of course, when needed in usual reserve fashion then we'll get the farce you talk about - Darcy Ward v Josh Bates. Course, the occasions of an EL heat leader v NL rider could be reduced if they adopt the sensible move of replacing a rider injured in an incident for which an opponent is discluded by another top-five rider as per R/R.

No we won't , read above.

Well, he's been to bed, got up, had breakfast, been out and is now at the computer. Did you really think I would be here all night just incase you posted something. Tosser.

Quite right. Let's not let them ride, save all that expense, and then wonder why we don't have Brit kids coming through and have to put up with the expensive foreigners.

Much rather watch everyone ride against each other.

And see a total mismatch, piss off the kids and folks like you then complain about the poor standard of British kids. Nah thanks.

This has got little to do with bringing on the kids, we all know that. My comment was ride against each other at a similar level. If they had implemented this in the PL the kids would still get plenty of track time. In my opinion would improve quicker riding against all opposition. Those British riders that have shown potential over recent seasons are frozen out, replaced by novices that are so out go their depth they have to have their own races. Nah thanks.

Having been away some time minus a lap-top and not bothering with internet cafes, I haven't read every thread on this forum so, instead of shouting reserves won't ride against the top guys how about saying 'this won't happen because this IS happening' rather then 'it won't happen because this ISN'T happening'. Reserves have taken the rides of injured riders in the past so presumably this is no longer the case and an alternative rule has come in to cover R/R for the third fourth and fifth average riders.

A lot of sense in that one Hodgy....how you doin ok?....long time since the Panthers forum days..swords drawn...Lol....of course I had Big prefix then....

Hey Big'en, all good here thanks. We used to have some good banter on the original forum. Problem on here is all threads end up as an argument, rather than a discussion based on personal opinion.

Merry Christmas.

Diamonds

Just added Newcastle to the list of tracks I want to go to next year (subject to fixture list) to be negotiated with she who must be given the impression she is obeyed.

Now, the last (and only time ) I visited Newcastle Speedway was in the early '80 between wives!! and before kids!! Those days I followed Birmingham Speedway.

I drove from Northampton via Birmingham to Newcastle and back to Northampton via Birmingham after the match - getting home just in time to go to work the next day. After taking current wife to Glasgow Speedway and back on the same day (following Peterborough) - I no longer get away with those sorts of trips.

So I can add a sweetener to the negotiations what are the decent places to stay and eat in Newcastle? Other half likes comfort and we both have a preference for good Chinese or Japanese.

As next year's a very hectic year - something to do with the current wife remaining in place for 25 years - apparently I get some sort of silver award.

Tel (this has been proof read and approved by she who must be consulted so don't blame me for typo's)

Plenty of eateries in the metro centre (not sure about Chinese but I think there's a Yo Sushi outlet). Have stayed in the travel lodge silverlink which is quite handy for the track and across the road from a shopping centre.
