Early Predictions

There's a Promoters meeting in mid-January so I would expect some further clarification then - not only on the race format either!!

Cheers, appreciate the info.

A prosperous New year to you.

I would love to watch Pawlicki each week & he might not get his assessed average but it will be worth the risk as he's quality.

Totally agree. And if he shows half as much passion when hes there as his brother did the fans will love him. Shamek used to stand and cheer on Coventry in each race and clearly enjoyed every heat win but 3rd and 4th would result in him banging bikes and looking very upset.

With most teams nearing completion, I'll have a go at a bit of a prediction.

BELLE VUE

A genuine No.1 in Zagar, and a strong top 4. With little pressure on Nicholls due to being only the 3rd heat leader he could have a good year. They will suffer when Cook has a clash of fixtures. Not got the best deal from the reserves draft, but the top end looks good. Only need to find a no.5 who will pick up a couple of points, and they should be heading for the play-offs without much trouble.

BIRMINGHAM

Still two riders missing, but King isn't the strongest No.1 and Barker & Kennett can be hit and miss. They need to come up with 2 good final signings, but I can only see them signing 2 jouneymen. Will be round the lower reaches of the table.

COVENTRY

Like the look of them. Andersen isn't what he once was, but still a capable No.1. Harris always at his best when he isn't No.1. Rest is reasonably solid and they have the best reserve by far. They'll be in the play-offs

EASTBOURNE

Very solid at home where they won't drop many points. Need Michelsen to kick on if they're going to do anything away from home. Mid-table just outside the play-offs

KING'S LYNN

Powerpacked top 3. Can Porsing and Lambert offer the support, especially away from home? Good pair of homegrown reserves who will score heavily at home, though Rose may take time to adjust to the away tracks. As long as the top 3 avoid injury they should be looking at the play-offs

LAKESIDE

Solid side, though Karlsson and Watt aren't getting any younger. Bech hasn't impressed me yet, but this could be the year he settles in. Mid-table just outside the play-offs

LEICESTER

Teams making the brave step-up to EL should be given more help. They've tried to pick up solid middle-order men, but with no No.1 Leicester are looking at the wooden spoon

POOLE

The team which starts March is irrelevant. It's the August team we need to look at. But of the March team, Ward is top class, 2nd heat leader still to be named, I like Janowski, and Grajczonek is solid. Milik shouldn't be a 4.00. A raw British novice comes in on 3.00, and if Milik is only one point a match better than that, then he shouldn't be racing here. A very strong reserve in Newman, but I'll be amazed if Smart turns a wheel for Poole. He'll be fiddled out of the team very soon. The August Poole team will probably be play-off contenders.

SWINDON

Perhaps neither Kildemand nor Batchelor are an out-and-out No.1, but as a top two they're a good pair. Morris and Gustafsson have more to offer. Can Klindt regain some kind of form? Nothing spectacular at reserve, but should be looking at the play-offs.

WOLVERHAMPTON

Can Pawlicki offer the heat-leader support that Woffinden needs? Proctor is decent, Wells will do a job, Thorsell is Ok, but I can't see scope for them getting near the play-offs.

Overall - Belle Vue, Coventry, King's Lynn, Poole and Swindon, will be the 5 teams fighting for 4 play-off places. Eastbourne and Lakeside just behind them. Wolves holding off Midland rivals Birmingham to finish above wooden-spoonists Leicester

Not wanting to put a prediction together until the format is sorted, But I can see three distinctive groups of team.

Groups are as follows but teams in no particular order

1, Belle Vue, Poole, Coventry and Kings Lynn to contest the play-offs berths

2, Eastbourne, Lakeside and Swindon in the middle regions,

3, Wolves, Birmingham and Leicester contesting the Wooden spoon.

Very much in agreement with this. Although in the case of B.V. depends on who the seventh rider is and whether they are still there come July. Eastbourne won't drop too many at Arlington and i'd take their top 2 over Lakeside's. I remember being on the Cov. supporters coach in 1990 (a rotten season) bemoaning the fact that we hadn't signed P.K. when he rode with Tatum at Ornarna. Trouble is that was half a lifetime ago. Swindon I don't rate this year other than the other PK. Leicester look horrible, Brum need another heat leader and Wolves team is for 2015. Coventry and Poole (with a decent last rider) look good with Kings Lynn favourites IMO.

That's Kings Lynn with 2x3 pointers in the 1-5!! Really??

Schlein is usually prone to picking up an injury/losing form during a season - how will he be covered with those 2 second strings and the Lewis'??

I think they have a strong top 3 but there are 7 riders in a team

Welcome everyone into the New Year. 2014 will only come once, so lets make it a year to remember.

No cheats, No hassle, No problems, Just classic racing, and brilliant atmosphere, where big crowds pay to come in.

Who said Speedway was a minority sport??????
