BREAKING NEWS - At least FIFA are looking kindly on speedway in this country, by declaring that the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will NOT now take place in June/July but probably November/December!

(ps, assuming we still have speedway in 2022!!!)

It was bloody stupid to ever think it could have been held there at that time of year, another example of authorities in power with no intelligence, or common sense.

Another prime example of Money talks. I wonder how they persuaded the FIFA officials to choose Qatar :t:

If dramatic changes were made to the machines that are used in league speedway (compared to what might be required at GP level), to lower the costs of bikes, tuning, servicing etc., then we may yet get a sport that becomes more affordable for everyone. And the racing might even be better!!!

That would be the obvious answer, but it needs long term planning, and we all know the BPSA aren't very good at that.

It never works like that though, does it? Look at all the changes to F1 over the years to bring the costs down but the budget for the teams always increases every year!

Speedway bikes are relatively simple so it's hard to see where cost savings can be made.

But its not just 'cheque book promoting', its the cost of the sport at all levels.

If riders didn't have to rush off abroad after UK meetings to earn their Euros to maintain their top of the range machinery, then they could stay local to their UK club and (re)build local contacts with fans past and present, sponsors and the wider community.

Now 'unofficial' - despite the FIFA General Secretary being the person that broke the 'news'!!!

Why has everyone got birmingham in the bottom 2 ?

Will 100% be in top half will have a bet with anyone

its just an opinion but last year you had Doyle and Harris and Smolinski and 2 out of 3 would usually score heavy and King and Barker as back up , all teams are weaker this year but you have King and Barker leading and Kennett as back up. I think you have a weak top end and will struggle. It's nothing against you or the club it's my opinion but just glad you boys are still running

Yep. Poole will hopefully clean up again this coming season.

just depends if they use horses for courses on away tracks or force meetings to start and finish when they want or riders laying down to get races stopped. If they can do all that again I'm sure they will be near the top

OK time for me to do my prediction.

1. Poole

Three heat leaders, two good second strings and at least one good reserve who will be there all season.

Ward should dominate most of the other teams number ones, and will be backed up by Shamek and Janowski.

Josh G is improving all the time and Millik, though untried has the ability to beat his counterparts. Newman at reserve is a match for most of the other reserves in the league.

2. Kings Lynn

A solid top three in NKI, Bjerre and Schlein. These three alone will be difficult to beat. They fall down on the second strings and will be found wanting. Using Lambert in the team is foolhardy IMO and he is one for the future no doubt. But to expect him to go out and win heats against far more experienced riders is asking too much in his first season. The reserves are good though and will probably clean up at Saddlebow.

3. Coventry

Decent top 2 of Andersen and Harris. Third heat leader Hansen not as strong but they have decent second strings in Howarth and Fisher. Garrity will do well at reserve.

4. Birmingham

A lot of people have this team further down and it's all down to their final rider. If they sign an out and out number one they will be capable of making 4th.

5. Eastbourne

They will be hard to beat at home and will pick up points on their travels. If they all ride to their potential they could sneak 4th.

6. Belle Vue

A good number one and two but after that a long wagging tail. Cooke will have to up his game and be backed up by one of the lesser riders for Belle Vue to be challenging.

7 Swindon

Kildemand and Batchelor will have to ride out of their skins to give Swindon any chance of glory in 2014. The loss of Morris was a major blow and one that can't really be replaced. Weak reserves as well. Also rans in 2014 as they attempt to get their finances back in order.

8. Lakeside

Evergreen PK is still at one and Lakeside will be a tough team to beat at home with Davey Watt. But will struggle at away tracks and get smacked a few times.

9. Leicester

Going to be hard for them. If Doyle doest get his visa sorted it could be a short first season for the lions. No big hitters and thrashings may well occur.

10 Wolverhampton

Tai will score well and at times Piotr, but where's the backup? Proctor needs to score from the off otherwise plenty of losses. Decent reserves mean they will get results at home but away points will be scarce.

That all hinges on Fat Maud fiddling the averages mid season....

Fiddling the Averages, really!! So hows he going to go about that? And by the way, his name Matt Ford..

Do you know something that the rest of us don't?
