racers and royals
It's 40 years today since Geoff Curtis lost his live at the Sydney Showground:- RIP Geoff My first speedway hero-his 2nd half battles with Anders Michanek at Tilehurst in 1973 were better than most of the races in the main match. JJJ
I was sitting in the Members's Stand at the Showground that night, about 50 yards from where Geoff had his accident. For me, Speedway is the most thrilling spectator sport in the world. At the same time, it can be the most tragic.
Mad Potter 2
Geoff always said he would never race at the Showground as it was to dangerous. Why he did I've never found out. Between 1926 and its closure in 1996 there were 28 competitors killed (14 solo 3 side-car & 12 Midget car). Geoff was the last to be killed there.
