PHILIPRISING
Do we know if Sky actually paid anything for the TV rights? ALTHOUGH the actual terms haven't been made public by either Sky or the BSPA, the consensus is that the money on the table is comparable with what was previously paid without the sponsorship. Bet there are already some at Sky already questioning their decision to renew.
Steve Shovlar
Sporting disasters like yesterday unfortunately happen in all sports. A few years ago England were playing a one day match in the West Indies. The crowd was in, sky were showing it live, and it was called off at the last minute because the players said the pitch was dangerous underfoot. So even Cricket has the same issue from time to time, and come off the pitch at the slightest drizzle.

Completely agree especially the way they go full support for the twenty/20 great when there is good weather but if it drizzles before the game it's pretty likely we watch the pundits chatting for three hours. That said its no so much the rain that annoys sky i think, it's more likely the problems when a track is unfit, there is a crowd in and it hasn't rained in days and sadly that's not as rare as it should be. Easy to say coventry was a poor choice but i have been let in to places like Peterborough and Kings Lynn with the sun beating down and the track looking like a moto cross track. Also unfortunately i attended both Gothenburg and Gelsenkirken in the aborted GP's. So it is a sport wide problem, not fare on sky but lot less fair to the supporters. moxey63
Comparing other sporting disasters with speedway's is a calming down measure, 24 hours after we all launched our toys from our prams. The sport is run by too many part timers who haven't the time to present the sport how the paying customers deserve it to be. Speedway has too many freak incidents that they aren't freak incidents any longer. Hands up... how many were surprised when they read initial reports that yesterday was postponed? How many are prepared to travel with confidence to their nearest venue - never mind hundreds of miles away - in the hope that "promoters" can be arsed with doing their job and getting the show on? Their "They'll be back" attitude has brought the sport its death, with empty terraces. Even cycle speedway is more professional than professional speedway... and more serious to be serious about. Assisted suicide is going ahead, right in front of our very eyes, but the few who visit the ill patient still think he's on the right road to recovery. Tom Turner
There was no bitter battle between the BSPA and Sky. Sky was always going to renew it's deal to cover speedway. Sky have signed a 5 year contract with Go Speed and it was negotiated by Wayne Russell, not Alex Harkness.
weatherwatcher
I personally think there are great big problems at Brandon. From the pictures when it was announced that the meeting had been cancled, it gave me a feaing of going back in time to some of the stadiums of the late 50 and early 60's. It seems to have lost it's way and now that they have been given 3 years to the close of the stadium. I think they would be better to make the move now. Even if it meens sharing a track until they are up and running with thier own stadium. It looked an absolute tip in the centre of the track. Not sure what they do there but it looked like a piece of waste ground. It is a sad thing to see, what with the report on the BPSA website from the Coventry promoter that until things get sorted out, there will be no home races at Brandon. There are quite a few stadium close by but would they let the Bee's race there, if not it looks like the Bee's will not be making a very good start to this season. moxey63
Speedway runs from March to October, has done very much in Britain since its birth. It is the period we expect bikes to roar, small gatherings to cheer... not turn up and be disappointed, on a lovely sunny day, that the meeting of five months' planning, is off. The track is dangerous! If supporters really did wish to waste time and finances, as they did on Sunday, they would demand stadiums were opened up in close season... when work hasn't been carried out on the racing surface either. Usually, supporters only turn up to watch speedway racing. Simple. Promoters, please, serve the word with some purpose... make the effort. Mike.Butler
Brandon one of the few stadiums to have staged speedway continuously since I started in '76...it's demise will mean even fewer remain..and i'm not counting Arlington in the ever decreasing list since they closed for half a seaon before Wimbledon bailed out there...If Brandon can go then anywhere can Edited April 1, 2014 by Mike.Butler
Conkers in Gravy
No, I certainly am not barking up the wrong tree. Sky's renewal was in doubt right to the end of the season. In mid-summer I was told it would be a "bloody miracle" if Sky renewed, such was their disillusion with the sport's promoters. What changed was the loss of some key sports events and the prospect of getting speedway for next to nothing.
