SteveLyric2
Lets be clear, Sky are not sponsoring Speedway any more - they have struck a deal to provide TV coverage, for which they will provide the BSPA/Go-Speed with a much-reduced 'rights fee', which will also include a payment to each home club for a televised meeting! Any additional League Sponsorship deal will need to be confirmed and announced soonest, in order to get the Sponsor Logo on the various sets of kevlars currently on order at the respective manufacturers!!! weatherwatcher
At least they have come clean in the end. Great news that our sport continues to get screen time every week throughout the season for the next 5 years. Now all we need to know who is going to be the sponser. Not only for this year but the next 5 years unless it will be a year at a time. Now the BPSA have some hard work to do to find the right company that can match the £1 million that Sky invested every year for the past 10 years. A big boot to fill at prices like that. But now they have at least the carrot to dangle for the sponsership deal that thier products are going on the TV and will be seen in thousands of homes and speedway stadiums throughout the British Isles. Can any one tell me why speedway has never got a foot hold in the R.O.I or Eire.Have they ever had a speedway stadium over there.

weatherwatcher
That was part of the leak in the paper that published the article some time back. When it should not have even been made. What I ment to say even with set top boxes and Sky boxes not all people subscribe to Sky Sports. Sky have never paid that much for Sponsorship - that is the estimated amount for the broadcasting rights. I haven't seen any indication that this has dropped significantly from years previous. stevebrum
Big question is "Will the Elite League last 5 years?" [/quote) Of course it will. The big question should be will it take 5 years for the PL to set up reserve berths exclusively for GB riders and help to look after the Sports future in the UK? Can any one tell me why speedway has never got a foot hold in the R.O.I or Eire.Have they ever had a speedway stadium over there. Speedway was tried on and off in Dublin at several venues, mostly in the 1950s, and at a couple of places in Northern Ireland. You can still see the track at Ballymena United's football ground, but it's been tarmacked for stock cars now. Harold's Cross Stadium, where racing was staged in 1928, would be a great venue now. There's an Irish speedway thread somewhere on here. As to why it's never taken off, maybe it's too small a population with already a lot of popular sports. Back to the subject. Good news on the Sky deal. Looking forward to the action starting in March.
flagrag
Hopefully now everybody can see and understand why there has been the delay in officially announcing the deal. Any announcements about rights and new services have to be announced to the stock market first before anybody else, I believe there is a law about this hence why Speedway star could not be given the green light to publish an article in today's excellent magazine. But it is all confirmed now and have also heard that a deal has been done again with BSI and an agreement with Eurosport to feature action from GPs during the British Speedway coverage. Just as a side note what would people's views on being given 5-1 cards upon entry like used at darts and 20-20 cricket ?

It would save time getting people to tuck them under seats, which is very time comsuming im sure... But speedway needs to come up with new inovations, and that is purely down to the clubs themselves. On the subject of a posible clash with Havvys fairwell meeting, do you not think its prudent to avoid the clash of dates, as Havvys meeting has been booked for a long time in advance now.. Perhaps you can take it up with the powers that be..

The Pedaler
There will be interviews with Terry Russell, Nigel Pearson and Kelvin Tatum next week. I can't wait to read those. The one with Terry Russell especially. The BSPA press release today TWICE mentioned that the deal was done between Sky and the BSPA. The spokesman for the deal for the BSPA was Alex Harkess...no mention of Terry Russell or GoSpeed International Ltd anywhere. Maybe you can ask why GoSpeed have been cut out of the loop. Was it a BSPA economy drive or was it GoSpeed deciding that 40% commission of nothing wasn't worth getting out of bed for? Maybe you can now ask Terry Russell what value GoSpeed places on the world rights to Polish Speedway now. Will it be worth them paying to keep the rights if they earn nothing from them and have no product to protect any more? Maybe you can ask Terry Russell what leverage GoSpeed now has over the BSPA over other media rights, and whether it is fair that GoSpeed should dictate what media is or isn't allowed - e.g YouTube Should GoSpeed be able to dictate how things are done in return for NOTHING of substance? Maybe you can ask Terry Russell what commission he things he is entitled to keep if GoSpeed ever secure a sponsor for British Speedway, in the way that they have singularly been unable to secure sport-wide advertising so far in their existence? You could arrange to make that a very interesting interview. Or, on the other hand, maybe you can perpetuate the image of being a toothless magazine, that just regurgitates press releases, as has been the topic of another thread on here. You won't want to upset your mates in the establishment do you? The choice is yours.

Over to you 'Speedway Star'. I would say that the gauntlet has been well and truly thrown down.................................... I would have thought better of you Ian. At every opportunity, that someone slags off Speedway or the BSPA, you seem to rub your hands with glee. You are not gustix, are you. Obviously The Pedaler has issues, misquoting, and making up things which are totally untrue, to try and embarrass the 'establishment". Why should any answers be given to a man on a mission trying to cause some form of bother. Business deals are between the parties and I see no reason why they need, or should, be made public, to satisfy the whims of such a poster. It seems to be a much bigger deal than 25 meetings on Sky if EVERY EL and PL meeting is to going to be able to be watched Live in this way. I'll be holding back on my Sky renewal until I get to know lot more about this potentially far more exciting deal. PS I've already emailed ATR to make sure they are not going to have the grusome twosome of Webster and Ermolenko. .
