Sky Sports New Deal

Recommended Posts

One wonders if this thread is discussing Speedway Sky Sports New Deal or Ping Pong/table tennis or whatever. Be nice to get back on topic.

NOTHING happening on this Thread.

SKY are saying NOTHING!!

BSPA are saying NOTHING!!!

So while we are waiting for those who treat their Viewers/Customers with such contempt we though it might be nice to talk about Table Tennis/ Ping Pong.

The attitude of SKY AND BSPA certainly has more PONG about it. It's called the Mushroom Factor - keep them in the dark and cover them with sh*t.

Aaaaahhhh!! THAT'S where the PONG came from.    :nono:

Has Barry Hearn ever been involved in speedway promotion?

If not, why not? ;)

Well, the answer is in your question - it's the "p" word. If Barry Hearn was involved in speedway, you could be assured that the sport would be promoted in the true sense of the word. Instead, we have to satisfy ourselves with the BSPA, masters of promoting self-interest. No way would the BSPA cede their power to an outsider.

As a promoters association obviously the criteria for a Barry Hearn involvement with the BSPA would surely be that he was promoting a track?

It's fascinating to see Hearn's treatment of table tennis - reversing mistakes, re-setting the technology to a simpler form and looking to entertain the customer. Of course, other sports couldn't learn from that...

fair point in one sense, but imagine if he took the sport forward, rather than backwards, as in darts for e.g., how many casualties on the bsf from the razzmatazz alone

Unless invited by the BSPA to promote the sport on a revenue share deal.

That looks an interesting suggestion on the face of it. How exactly do you think it could be established - wouldn't the BSPA need a cash involvement from Hearn - what might they look at if your idea became feasible?

If Orient succeed with the ground share deal with WHU at the olympic stadium, it might present a start point. Taking the GP back to London might provide a start point.

On revenue share, basically it's no different in principle to what the BSPA has in place with Go Speed for TV rights negotiation.

Thank you for the explanatory response. I can see and appreciate the direction this could take.

Hearn would be more suited to the individual competitions eg GPs, British final, rather than league speedway!!

Unless of course he owned all the clubs in the league and turned it into more of a circus than it is at the moment!

BRIGGO once talked to his mate Bernie Eccelstone about getting involved with British speedway. He had one criteria ... own all the stadiums and all the teams. Nothing less than total control. Bernie is an admitted advocate of dictatorship rather than democracy but, not surprisingly, he couldn't quite see a profit at the end of the tunnel.

well we don't want any of that 'team orders' funny business anyway...

No - it's far better to lose a race to qualify for a golden double!!

It would be nice to see someone. Get the iniiiative, get together thier own production team and sponsers.

Open thier own Speedway TV Channel and show all forms of the sport. Elite League. Premier League. National League, Junior League. British Championships, GP and World Championships plus leagues from other countries and American Speeday. Long Track, Grass Trackand Ice Speedway. The list is endless.

There is enough there to fill a weeks worth of viewing.

What a dream. As long as it came as free to view and you didn't have to fork out another £10 or so a month to watch it.

iF it was gone about in the right way, it would pay its own way with sponsership deals.

Now that would be worth watching.

And a round up programme on a Sunday, giving you all the weeks results and some rider features. Dream on it would make good viewing for all Speedway fans and maybe even bring in a few more to the sport..

But it is just a dream and will never happen.

Are you looking EuroSport. You have got some of the best now, so go for the rest.

Excuse my ignorance but whats going on....have SKY got the contract to show the Speedway but are awaiting a sponsor before finally comitting?

Both SKY and the BSPA want to hold us in suspense as long as possible.

It's called Customer Relations.

No it is the BPSA who have now got to find a new sponser. Sky are just offering a service to broadcast the speedway with them paying no sponsership money this year.

If it ever happens. Seems no news is good news.
