arthur cross
The chances are that any announcement by Sky is waiting for what's expected to be a quiet day on Sky Sports News so that they can make the most of interviewing Tai Woffinden to celebrate the deal and then use various chunks of that interview once an hour for the rest of the day. Usually the last midweek before Christmas would be regarded as ideal for a "quiet day" so perhaps that's why Wed-18th was mentioned on here as the likely date for the announcement. But the combination of Spurs sacking Andre Villas Boas, England losing the Ashes as early as the 3rd Test and now the crazy fuss surrounding Cardiff's owner Vincent Tan and manager Malky Mackay has meant this has been one of the busiest pre-Christmas weeks ever for Sky Sports News. I wouldn't be surprised if any Sky speedway announcement doesn't now happen until the midweek in mid-January when they'd expect to be relatively quiet on Sky Sports News while the FA Cup 3rd round replays are shown totally on ITV or BT. Lets hope the Football January transfer window is quiet so that it doesn't infringe or delay further the Sky Sports Speedway Announcement ! I don't hope it's quiet - especially not at Sunderland.

mike1944
Rumor on Twitter is a 7 year deal signed by SKY I would not be surprised at a 5 year deal but would be amazed at a deal as long as 7 years.

Why make the announcement so long before the start of the season and TV coverage? Surely to raise interest amongst non-speedway aficionados it makes more sense to do it nearer the time for maximum impact on viewing figures? SCB
Matt Ford has let the cat out the bag, we all know we're getting speedway on Sky. Like last year with the GPs just sit and wait.
500cc
Rumor on Twitter is a 7 year deal signed by SKY TV coverage is really important to a sport, especially one where sponsorship is so core to its finances. So my only reservation is whether a long term tie-in may impact league sponsorship. With Sky no longer sponsoring the Elite League, the annual 1 million income needs to be at least partially recouped via new league sponsorship. Separating the TV coverage and League sponsorship is probably a good thing. However, if a big player like BT Sport were interested in a TV plus sponsorship deal, that wouldn't be possible. The TV coverage looks a done deal. The big challenge now is to find a replacement League sponsor. I think that could be a far harder task, particularly to get anything in the range of the current deal.
Jonny the spud
The non announcement so far does however make it very hard to attract sponsorship for a rider. Especially with the waiting lists at some companies for getting suits / bike covers etc
Humphrey Appleby
On the other hand we've gone from a position where apparently Sky weren't even talking to us to a position where we appear to have a deal so significant progress has been made. I suppose it really depends on what Sky are paying (or not).
StormMarketing
If its similar to the BSB deal, then Sky wont pay anything to GO Speed for the deal, however they will cover the production costs of filming so many meetings etc. Its now down to Go Speed to use this deal to attract investment in the form of sponsorship. StormMarketing
SCB - I dont know but everyone seems to think that these TV companies pay to provide coverage for sports, in reality its only the mainstream sports that receive any money, Speedway was fortunate enough that Sky Sports wanted to sponsor as well, I know in BSB they do not have prize money as this is put towards TV coverage and riders/teams feel with TV coverage they can gain more income via sponsorship. In BSB teams feel they wont get good sponsors if there is no TV coverage which is spot on - this is why the series is/has been supported by some big companies
MattK
Isn't BSB shown on ITV though, therefore significantly more exposure than speedway gets on Sky Sports?

andrewrunagall
Seems a bit weird that there's no review of the season on Sky at all, But as the above post says, we'll have to wait just a few more days to hear what is actually happening.
