A couple of disgraceful Posts Haza.

Philip comes on this Forum and tries to help keep us up to date with what is happening in the Speedway World. He doesn't HAVE to do this, he does it to keep us informed - as best he can. He is not responsible for the delay in the TV Deal. Philip will have had information that the Deal will be announced and given a rough timescale - he then reports that to us. Deadline comes, and then goes with NO announcement again, NOT Philip's fault - he has given us the Information in good faith. I, for one, appreciate his efforts.

I, myself, have criticised Philip on certain issues in the past. One thing I would never question though is his Honesty and his Integrity.

Finally - I get Speedway Star now and again from the Supermarket - I am NOT a Subscriber - nor do I know Philip - I have never met him. Therefore I have NO axe to grind here.

I do believe an APOLOGY would be very much in order though.

Fully agree WK - totally unnecessary comments!

I remember back in the days of Black and White television. When the screens where 10 inches squre in a cabinet as large as a fridge. The only speedway we saw was on the BBC on Grandstand on a Saturday.

You may have got 2 or 3 shown a year. Most from Wembly. Times have changed, the way people do things have changed. Nearly every town had a dog track that was packed out on a Saturday nights and doubled as a speedway stadium in the week.

People went out to socialise. Now they have to go to the gym, play football on Sunday. If you had done anything on a Sunday in that eara, you would have been branded as if you where in league with the devil.

I see no problems with speedway on the TV.

That is not the cause of the drop in attendance figures at our speeday tracks.

The problem lies with people changing life styles. It is up to the BSPA, to get people out there interseted in speedway again. Would it have hurt any to have put some adverts on the TV and the papers to let people know that speedway was still alive and kicking.

Not everyone has Sky Sport on thier TV's Lots of people have got Free to view set top boxes.

It is a need to let the public out there know, that they can go to a speedway stadium near to them. Have a night out, with a graet crowd of people and a good night out, with no violance as in some sports.

Bring Speedway into the 21st century, before it slowly fades away, and people will be trawing the internet in 30 years time to look and see what the sport was all about. That is unless you go to one of the countries that make a big thing about the sport.

This countries learders have sold it short for far to long.

I remember going to Long Eaton and there where posters, on and around the stadium showing you every week who the where racing against.

How many speedway towns and Citys, have a poster anywhere on or near thier stadiums these days.

Come on don't let our sport do a dying fly, with it's feet flopping around in the air upside down.

It is a great sport and one I love. Lets not let it die, like the fly.

This would cost far too much. The amount of fans you could expect through the turnstiles would no way cover the outlay for the adverts.

Everyone who owns a TV now have Freeview, after the digital switchover. I don't see what you're getting at there though?

I agree with a lot of what you are saying though. It's how you do it, cost effectively though.

Perhaps you should address that question to Matt Ford, unless he is now subject to some form of gagging order?

There is a new deal as i said. The BBC were also interested but wanted a longer time frame. Maybe the BSPA are still looking for a sponsor to cover the short fall and announce both togeather. The Asda Elite League :D Then again we all know everything the BSPA touch turns to Kak so why should this be any differant.

Mr Fords gag installed by the bspa is that big he looks like Zoro

I would like to see the golden helmet brought back over two legs and a decider if needed on neutral track if needed remember the Boocock /Fundin encounter at Cov I think Boocock won 2-1 to take it to a decider Fundin won in the end now there was a rider the opposing fans hated

I know that this may now be considered 'off topic' but I would like to reply here as my comments relate to recent posts on this thread.

Dorothy: How do you talk if you don't have a brain?

Scarecrow: Well, some people without brains do an awful lot of talking don't they?

Contributors to this forum include:

  1. people who ramble on and on to no clear or constructive purpose (see above) or to a restate their own personal fixed agenda
  2. those Lamenting Past times ( :t::t: etc)
  3. attention seekers (KKS anyone?)
  4. those who make perceptive and /or witty observations that actually add something new to a discussion e.g. a Shadwell resident
  5. providers of new information.

It is the only the last two categories that are actually worth reading (in my opinion) however I understand why others might enjoy the banter involved for 1,2 and 3

So why am I writing this? Because I really appreciate the posts that Phil Rising takes the trouble to contribute and am horrified at the lack of respect and gratitude he sometimes receives as a 'thank you' for his efforts. It is a minority but if I were Phil I would wonder why I bother.

So I like to offer my thanks to Phil, my apologies for some of the mindless replies he attracts and to say please continue to keep us informed as best as you are able.

So now it becomes obvious why there was the delay.

Its results day for Sky and they at the same time announced the renewal of 6 of their deals.

Part of their strategy to say look at us - sign up.

After Sky lost the Champions League they need all the sports they can get.

Big question is "Will the Elite League last 5 years?"

Guess you're unhappy that new deal has been announced eh?
