SteveLyric2
Err................................. Havvy's meeting is being staged at Poole. Matt Ford offered to stage the meeting. Poole have a social evening on Wednesday. More good PR for the loyal fans who regularly attend such social evenings from a professionally run club. Any other track has only to pick up the phone on a fans night (if they have them) and I'm sure Gary would speak there as well. Not forgetting that BSPA also approved Havvy's Farewell meeting in the first place!!! I actually do hope Havvy sticks to his original date now - although he'll have to be prepared for all the vilified comments after the 21st from people complaining about a watered down ERC Open meeting - whether its from people paying £25 to attend or watching it on Sky!! StevePark
IF Havvys meeting is forced into moving (which seems likely at present) it wiil be interesting to see if those riders who said they will snub the ERC still do. Surely that would be the way to show their backing for him - turn down the ERC invite even if its not on the same night. That's highly unlikely, I'd say. Bagpuss
A victory for common sense I'd say.
PHILIPRISING
SKY Sports got a lot of stick on here, Twitter, Facebook, etc ... unjustifiably in my opinion. They had no knowledge of Havvy's date, suggested they cover the ELC on March 21 and were told that was okay. Now they have come up with a solution so perhaps those who vilified them will offer their praise instead.
Rico
Embarrassment all round. It's a blessing that no-one outside of speedway pays any attention to it Rico

SteveLyric2
BSPA were at fault! - Admitted. BSPA contacted Sky! - Probably. BSPA concede! - Definitely. Well done Sky! - Absolutely. Well done Havvy! - As it should be. (NB> Matt Ford Back from holiday (?) - Sense prevails!) pandorum
Well Gary was never going to get the full backing of the speedway public as no sportsman ever gets the backing of all in any sport. A victory for fairness regardless of who the rider was. That it was one of our rare world champions and the reaction of many posters here shows that Tai Woffinden has a lot to look forward to in his career. Poor Gary guilty of being human and condemned for doing something silly when young. I hope it all goes well for the guy and also the ELRC is a big success but the whole sorry affair shows how far this sport has fallen when we can't even acknowledge (begrudgingly or not) our success stories. World champions like Havvy, Tai and Tatters get temendous stick but they never killed anyone FFS. They just smoked dope, had a strop, got tattoos, lived in Australia or spoke in an annoying high pitched scream on TV. We don't deserve succes in this sport as we don't seem to appreciate it when we get it. Sad really

StevePark
My phone wont open up the link - whats the news? Copied and pasted from BSPA Web page: "THE British Speedway Promoters’ Association can now confirm a satisfactory conclusion has been reached over the clash of dates with the Elite Riders’ Championship and Gary Havelock’s Farewell. Our broadcast partner, Sky Sports, have advised us that a slot for live coverage of the ERC at Coventry has become available at 6pm on Sunday, March 23 and they, like ourselves, have no wish to be associated with negative publicity. We have agreed to move the ERC to this slot which leaves the March 21 date clear for Gary Havelock’s Farewell at Poole. The BSPA look forward to a successful ERC and a fitting way to launch the first season of a new Sky Sports broadcast deal". CB252
Good to know that kicking up a fuss and screaming, bleating and swearing all over social media for a few days, rather than discussing calmly and rationally without all the mud slinging, can have such an effect. Bet Sky are elated to be associated with it all for another 5 years! So Havvy gets his meeting on the 21st and will still get the same crowd as he'd have got got if he were running against any other meeting. A couple of thousand Poole fans, two coaches from Redcar and the 6 Bradford fans that haven't been lost to the sport! Talk about a fuss over nothing.
Dave Jones
All sorted then. Now us bees supporters just need to devise a plan to keep Havvy down on the south coast for the whole season.

Havvy whining and moaning has done the sport no credit either has it. As you say the stadium will be 2000 Poole fans and about 5 people north of the Watford Gap exactly the same if he had kept his date

If only Speedway can do this on a regular basis and all bodies work together for the good of one thing, speedway in this country then we would have a much better relationship and Sport... Well done Sky. Credit where credit is due... Edited February 4, 2014 by Starman2006

Judging by the response on Twitter I'd say there's plenty of fans from a cross the country that will be attending.
