Havvy's Farewell - Poole Speedway - Friday 21st March 2014

Recommended Posts

Gavan I should give up on this one because I believe you will be proved totally wrong - you only have to read some of the posts on this thread, as well as Facebook/Twitter to realise there will be fans from many clubs in attendance!!

As soon as Havvy has announced the full line-up of riders I reckon there will be at least twice as many at Wimborne Road on 21st than at Brandon on 23rd ( unless the Sky fee is to be used to dramatically reduce the ERC admission price!?) You never know, you might even be tempted to attend yourself when you know whose going to be riding!!!?:D

Why not PM me as I would be delighted to introduce you to some of the Poole fans!

Yeh come on down Gavan, you like Skdders says will meet many poole fans on this forum, and maybe Steve. But my advice is if your driving get here early, the car park will fill very quickly...

Everyone is happy now which is meritorious on all parties. Fingers crossed it doesn't rain on Havvys big day.

Or on the ELC!!

Good job we have plenty of time for the weather to improve, hope it's cleared up by then - look forward to my first meeting of the yyear :)

What's that? Hopefully The Storm as I was going to that on Sunday the 23rd but presumably that's now off. Bah! I'm fed up altering the fixture list I printed off. :D

Yep Storm v Cradley now the 21st unless they want that changed aswell.

Yep Storm v Cradley now the 21st unless they want that changed aswell.

COVENTRY’S opening fixtures of the 2014 season have now reverted to their original schedule.

The re-arrangement of the Elite Riders’ Championship to Friday March 21 generated a clash of dates with Gary Havelock’s Farewell meeting at Poole on the same evening.

Sky Sports, who will be broadcasting the ERC live as the first meeting of their new five-year contract with British Speedway, have now been able to make a Sunday evening slot available, and the event therefore reverts to March 23 at 6pm.

With thanks to the management of Cradley for their quick co-operation, we can immediately confirm that the visit of the Heathens in the first leg of the Travel Plus Trophy will now take place as originally planned on Friday March 21.

This means the first three meetings of the season at Brandon are as follows:

Friday March 21 – Coventry Storm v Cradley (Travel Plus Trophy) – 7.30pm

Sunday March 23 – Elite Riders’ Championship – 6pm

Friday March 28 – Coventry v Birmingham (Elite League) – 7.30pm

Err.................................

Havvy's meeting is being staged at Poole.

Matt Ford offered to stage the meeting.

Poole have a social evening on Wednesday.

More good PR for the loyal fans who regularly attend such social evenings from a professionally run club.

Any other track has only to pick up the phone on a fans night (if they have them) and I'm sure Gary would speak there as well.

We would give Gary a farewell at Coventry if it meant he would actually go and we could get a manager who knows what he's doing

Any in particular or just the general wave of support for Havvy.

When will people get off the Poole kick. Not my team but this had nought to do with Poole other than Havvy made a wise choice of venue and has obviously benefitted from a decent stadium with a good following and a lot of help from the promotion. As pirate Nick said a general wave of support from the sensible fans won the day, hope its a really successful night for him he deserves it.

like colin pratt who was pushed out maybe?

Lets remember the manager is only as good as the tools provided which were pretty poor last year

the reason I say there wont be many from outside poole going is simple.

1. outside of poole, Bradford, and redcar havvy isn't well liked. only have to look at the 'riders you dislike thread'

2. for anyone not from one of the above places to go to poole on a Friday night is geographically a pain in the arse for most other elite league fans.

3. the man has already had a testimonial.

I live near Ipswich and if you are asking me would I take a day off work to travel to Poole on a Friday , or a nice day out on a Sunday to watch the ELC then im off to Coventry.

Im sure im not the only fan who thinks this way.

Now lets see more over reaction from the Poole fans like we have had on the last 15 pages of this thread

You seem to be an expert on "over reaction".

I am sure Poole will be packed with fans from all over the country to support Havvy.

While the usual Poole hater tries to make reasons why no one other than Poole fans and a handful of others will attend, the rest of us will cheer on one of Britains World Champions as he continues to battle against a crippling life changing injury.

Pretty sure more will attend Wimborne Road than the invitational at Coventry.

I doubt that because of location and the day its being held. A trip to Poole on a friday for most requires a day off and maybe a stop over. Sunday at Coventry is easily accessable to most of the country and can be done in the day.

It will be interesting to see if both tracks are willing to publish the actual (Not what they want you to believe) bums on seats figure after both matches to be honest Steve if Chris Holder and Greg ride you will possibly have the bigger gate .Good luck to Havvy I was privileged to be in Poland when he won World Final a great day for British Speedway .Not to keen on the presentation when poor Rick Miller who was carrying a pretty heavy leg injury from a couple of weeks before had to walk the whole way round the track as that was how the riders were presented to the crowd .

But that's exactly why there has been such an outcry from fans - especially on Twitter and Facebook - because days off, accommodation etc have been booked!!

(ps. with the weather how it is at the moment, I wonder if Havvy's potential rain-off date will be the 23rd?!) :D:D

I will start by saying that I am glad that Havvys date has been left unchanged as that was only right and proper.

But I will play devils advocate re attending from far afield aside from a dedicated few who wouldve been there regardless of date time and line up.

You seem very definate Steve that you would attend in those circumstances. Can you confirm that had Havvys meeting been on the Thursday in Redcar that you woukdve been there.

you really are either a very sad man or thick I'm just trying to work out which. Take your stupid tints off to realise I'm not having a pop at Poole or is that beyond you. It's blatantly obvious to most that the meeting being on a Friday and the geography of it means less will turn up then if it was a Saturday night or Sunday afternoon meeting. Take your Poole hat off and look at the bigger picture

absolutly spit on now try and get it through to the forums troll

i don't begrudge the meeting either apart from the obvious fact he has had one already. My point was that its not the best time and location for most fans to go to. Trouble is if you don't agree with some Poole fans its not allowed on here! I would imagine if the meeting was held in the north you would at best get one coach load of Poole fans making the journey and the place would be packed from his northern fan base. As its at Poole the majority of fans will be Poole supporters its not that hard to get surely. And no shovlar wouldn't go if it wasnt at Poole
