pandorum
Why is Havelock having a farewell meeting when still involved in speedway with Coventry bees? Jesus Christ is people begrudge a man like Gary Havelock a farewell meeting what hope is there for the rest. He was a Poole legend and the nice folks at Poole want to honour his riding career with a meeting but it seems a bunch of clueless idiots have put on a now Mickey Mouse meeting (that was once an essential meeting during a season it has to be said) on the same night just down the road. Why can't they just move it to another date? Gary spent a lot of time organising his meet and loads of people have plans to go which have cost them time, effort and money. Yes it might get rained off but thats speedway. Gary has to live with the weather but how galling that the f###wits who run the sport have thrown all the effort into utter confusion. Fair play to Chris Holder for saying he will be at the Havvy farewell regardless. The season has not even started and the sport looks stupid.
John Leslie
Why is Havelock having a farewell meeting when still involved in speedway with Coventry bees? I think it's mainly the Bees fans who suggested that he has a farewell meeting and buggers off!
Phil The Ace
So now we can't have 2 meetings in 1 day. You will all soon be wanting league meetings called off when you have a rider missing so you can use other teams riders as guests when yours are injured. There are plenty of riders to go around to have both on same day. But if ward does ride in havvys farewell which is fair enough as he should keep his word he will get a 28 day ban which is brilliant
josietoms
I can't believe people still back a rider who got banned for using drugs. Can u imagine the uproar if darcy ward or Lewis Bridger was to fail a drug test.

Did he also not once refuse to ride for Team GB because he fell out with Dave Jessup (then GB manager)? Makes a mockery of some of the claims being made about him!! Just goes to show how much the fans are willing the bspa to ruin speedway. One minute complaining no sky deal was announced,as soon as the bspa announce a sky deal along with the details of the first live meeting off 2014 there's uproar.

SCB
I still say the easiest solution is Havvy has his meeting that night and the BSPA pay him a fair amount as compensation. As promoters they'll have some ida of how much Havvy is likely to lose out as a result but I'd have thought 3-5k would make Havvy happy (about 3-400 paying fans) and would be peanuts for the BSPA considering they have just got a 5 year Sky deal. oldace
You have to love your typical speedway fan. Up in arms that they might be denied the opportunity to line the pockets of a sportsman who has probably earned a sight more in his speedway career than they will earn in a lifetime. The whole concept of testimonials and farewells is totally ridiculous. Mercenary riders now get a testimonial for merely being 10 years in the sport rather than the intended 10 years with one club. Promoters can now use it as a bargaining tool, get a rider to agree acslightly less points deal and get the mugs to make up the shortfall in yet another "thouroughly deserved testimonial/benefit/farewell Edited February 1, 2014 by Oldace
tyretrax
Much in the same league, Glasgow STARS group are holding an event on Feb.22nd the same night as the W.S.R.A. are honouring Glasgow legend Steve Lawson (voted Glasgow's greatest ever rider in a STARS poll) and Harry MacLean. Not for the first time either, they have clashed with Jimmy Mac. and Brian Collins events.

Yes i am sure Havvy has earned a decent living during which time he has been seriously injured more than one occasion, with his career ending crash that has left him with a disability. You obviously use term mercenary meaning Havvy. A great servant to British Speedway for twenty odd years unlike those true mercenaries like Crump, Hancock, Jonsson etc who took the money in Britain then turned their backs when the sport here needed them most.

The Doctor...
and as its his 'farewell'.. where is he going??? Exactly. No need whatsoever for this belly-rubbing exercise for a drug taking competitor in the sport i love. If he's skint, he has my sympathy - but do something about it, the same way us normal folk have to. I'd be interested to know what someone like him does in his normal life anyway..does he work ?

Woz01
Apart from Havvys constant retweets, my twitter timeline mainly dont understand the over reaction, Havvys already had a testimonial anyway. I dont agree that Havvy should change his date but I see no reason why both cant happen on the 21st.
Gavan
massive over reaction as i said before in the thread. the bspa have their hands tied by a lucrative sky contract plain and simple. people moaning about the sport then happy to stick two fingers up to sky when they come to they party and televise a meeting. Havvy has had his meeting already this is just to get a bit more bunce in his pocket. Dont begrudge him a meeting he is a former world champion but all the moaning give it a rest. Love people giving the big one to Holder for riding in Havvys meeting lol. Get a grip people he isnt contracted to ride in either so of course he can look like the good guy in slagging off the bspa it matters nothing to him! Its people like Ward that need to be careful though i would laugh till the cows come home if he gets a ban when all the blue tints tell him to ride at Havvys!!
P T Preece
Dont think people are begrudging him a meeting but the sport is almost in the gutter and sky have stepped in again with a 5 year deal. Unfortunatly Sky will call the shots and the BSPA will have to move with them or risk them pulling the plug their hands are tied on this one. The ELC is not a mickey mouse meeting it used to have a great standing. What better way to introduce the sport to newcomers on sky with an individual with 16 top class riders should be a good advert for the sport. Lets be honest Havvy has had a testimonial and has not ridden for 18 months or so. Yes his date was arranged first but i cant see why the fuss about moving it. The sport needs to think more long term here. If the BSPA try to stand up to sky over this then cant see Sky being to impressed with it to be honest. It basically just isnt a good situation and nobody is the winner here. Long term thinking by the BSPA, thats the funnist thing Ive heard for a long time
foamfence
http://www.speedwaygb.co.uk/index.html The latest from the BSPA, it seems to be saying "you are going to back down" (I wouldn't!).
