pugwash
It's one of the least significant top 10s since that system came in because there's only one winner: the most out-and-out certain winner ever in Andy Murray. The words 'personality' and 'andy murray' seem alien.
Parsloes 1928 nearly
So you are admitting that it could have been a fiddle - and that I was right do you?No, I still have my doubts that it was as described. To be honest if they were so intent on fiddling it then I very much doubt Briggo would've been 'allowed' to be second. Nudd wasn't put down to second; he wasn't included at all! It doesn't do a sport any favours to have an orchestrated campaign to vote for someone who doesn't really deserve it. Tai is different - he 100% deserves to be in the Top 10 but once he is (as I hope..) let's be realistic and not even think he can beat Murray, because that would be foolish... Guest
The words 'personality' and 'andy murray' seem alien. It's not a personality contest it's a sport achievement recognition event. On that score, tennis ace Andy Murray deserves it for his brilliant season apart from his success at Wimbledon.
SCB
The words 'personality' and 'andy murray' seem alien. Sports Personality is the wrong names. It's clearly sporting achievement of the year. The minute Murray won Wimbledon he was going to be the only winner. If Tai even makes the top 10 it's a victory for himself and the sport. And frankly, his story qualified him if you read what is taken into account by the judges. Sporting achievement, triumping adversity, going beyond what is expected and charity work. Well no, he wouldn't be a shoo-in if he hadn't won Wimbledon - but anyone who understands sport in this country will now appreciate that Murray is an abolute certainity (and 100% right too...) for the SPOTY award. It ain't even worth having the vote in truth!!

If you are you are skaing on thin ice with me Parsloes. It's not a personality contest it's a sport achievement recognition event. That would tend to preclude Murray. He will still win it though. Edited November 26, 2013 by The White Knight

If you are you are skaing on thin ice with me Parsloes. Do I think that a New Zealander Speedway rider deserved the award in '64 ahead of the first ever Olympic Gold-medal winning British woman athlete and in '66 ahead of the captain of the first (only!) England team to win the Football World Cup..? Er, not a difficult question in each case - of course I do not.. That's not a slur on Briggo it's just a plain and obvious fact!

John Leslie
Do I think that a New Zealander Speedway rider deserved the award in '64 ahead of the first ever Olympic Gold-medal winning British woman athlete ? Er, not a difficult question in each case - of course I do not.. And you're entitled to your opinion... Doesn't make you right though. And it would seem that the majority of the sports-watching public of 1964 didn't agree with you if more voted for Briggs than Rand. p.s. Keep tweeting #SPOTY to let the BBC know that the Speedway-going licence-payer wants to see Tai recognised https://twitter.com/search?q=%23spoty%20woffinden&src=typd&f=realtime

Parsloes 1928 nearly
Hmm, I don't reckon I'm going out too far on a limb to suggest that one or two more people might consider England winning the World Cup in 1966 a just slightly more significant event in the history of British sport than Briggo's 4th. world title win. But please note, this is only my opinion..!

piston197
If you look at the betting odds on the sports personality of the year Andy Murray is a nailed on certainty, Corals have Woffy at 4th favourite albeit at 100 to1 !!! Hunty
I will still be very supised if he gets a spot! Fingers crossed though! Ben Anislie Ian Bell Hannah Cockcroft Mo Farah Chris Froom Are the first 5... So name 5 more worthy than Tai?
mickthemuppet
I would be amazed if Tai were mentioned if they named 25 stars. Although world champion he only won one GP in Prague. Hardly a reccomendation to be BBC SPORTS personality of the year is it

Its about being a PERSONAILTY...Someone who shows they can do it on or off the track, pitch, road, water! A role model someone who dont get into trouble.... How Ryan Giggs won it is beyond me as he hate an affair and that to me isnt somthing I would like my kids to look up to! Hardly a reccomendation to be BBC SPORTS personality of the year is it Let's disqualify Andy Murray then, since he only won one Grand Slam. (And unlike Tai Woffinden, Murray isn't even World No.1)
