John Leslie
BBC have a track record of responding badly to organised campaigns by minority sports. They will ignore any such representations rightly or wronglyDon't be silly, It's the BBC who are asking people to tweet them and say who they think should have been in the 10 shortlisted nominations. Don't know if this will work. It should show the tweets that have mentioned Woffinden and #SPOTY. https://twitter.com/search?q=%23SPOTY%20woffinden&src=typd&f=realtime It doesn't include the ones who mentioned him but misspelt Woffinden . Grand Central
I'm not talking about The One Show. Obviously the BBC have already chosen their 10 preferred candidates. Tai may or may not be one. That's all The One Show are doing - telling who the 10 candidates are.But the Sports Personality of the Year programme covers more than just the 10 nominees. The BBC are today asking us who we think should have been on the experts list. If we can make a bit of noise about Tai, then it could still affect the mention he gets on the night. So, I shall say again. All true.
500cc
In truth it will be highly unlikely that Tai will make the Top Ten. The ten will feature sports men and women who are more household names. That's not a fault of the BBC, but the profile of speedway isn't high enough at the moment. I expect the experts will have Tai on their long list, but in the end he is unlikely to make the cut. However, there is some potential in him being used in a different way. He has a story that is of interest to sport followers. Ride in to the studio on his bike, quick discussion on the speed and no brakes (I know !!!!), Eurosport clips of his crashes, his cycle ride to Cardiff, quick discussion of his injuries, a show of his tattoos. Cliched I know. Focusing on crashes (which we all know what can happen), but it is part of the sport. But the story of what he's overcome to succeed this year will strike a cord. Success over adversity is always of great interest. Speedway is difficult because of the extent of the adversity (injuries). But that is a way to move him towards a household name and the admiration of his sporting peers.

Pirio Barre
" Which sportsmen and women would be in your top 10 and why? Send us your top 10 list via the hashtag #SPOTY or comment via ourFacebook page. " Sorry a bit off topic, but this annoys me aren’t facebook and twitter companies worth billions so why does the BBC use/promote them as a way to access them. It’s like a BBC show only accepting calls from people using virgin media phone lines, or only accepting letters that have been sent by parcelforce. What happen to impartiality and no advertising at the BBC. #RANTOVER Edited November 26, 2013 by Pirio Barre
Parsloes 1928 nearly
It's one of the least significant top 10s since that system came in because there's only one winner: the most out-and-out certain winner ever in Andy Murray. Now I'm no Tennis fan but even if you're not you have to accept that it was a national obsession waiting for a male winner of Wimbledon and by doing so Murray has wiped away all opposition in a quiet year for British sport. As opposed to last year when there were several amazing contenders. It's hard to see - for example - a single woman really being worth a place in the top 10 but then again it is actually quite hard to name a top 10. For that reason I actually think that Tai has a pretty good chance of being in that top 10. Which will be a victory in itself.

Agree, there is no doubt Andy Murray will win after winning Wimbledon and if Tai is in the top ten when announced that will be a great achievement! The White Knight
They won't have a choice, providing enough people vote for him. I think you need to ask Barry Briggs about that. I believe that he was conned. Edited November 26, 2013 by The White Knight
Parsloes 1928 nearly
I think you need to ask Barry Briggs about that. He was conned. That's pure Speedway urban myth. In '64 he was second to Mary Rand who had year had become the first British woman ever to win Olympic Gold in Athletics. In '66 he was second to Bobby Moore and ahead of Geoff Hurst - yes, THAT '66!! To suggest that Briggo was robbed in such cases is frankly nonsense - to have beaten either of those two in those years would not have been right; to finish ahead of hat-trick hero Hurst is a massive achievement in itself!

There was also the year when Bob Nudd, the angler, won. Again it was fiddled, and the rules changed for the following year.
EC Rides Again
Erm...No. Briggs was the deserved winner. I'm sure if you have a dig around you'll find the details of when the BBC as good as admitted it was fiddled. There was also the year when Bob Nudd, the angler, won. Again it was fiddled, and the rules changed for the following year. The nominated top ten who are voted for by phone vote on the night was brought in to nullify the organised campaign by minority sports to get their candidate voted in as a winner (see Bob Nudd and the Angling community). I must admit that Briggo being the victim of a stitch up was not something I was aware of, but it was a year before I was born ! If Tai could be included as a nomination that would be great, but I cannot see it happening. This year there is only one winner, Andy Murray, with Ben Ainslie worth an each way bet. I think that the rest of the ten nominees will be padded out with a spread of the usual suspects that will fulfil the Beeb's "diversity" criteria. Possibly it will have to be candidates who the BBC TV archives have plenty of previous action coverage of as well!
Tom Turner
You cannot get more personality that Tai Woffinden! It would be a great shame if he isn't in the top 10. He has faced some tough challenges and came out as a world champion, what a man. Good luck Tai.

There's a real story here with his father, the bike ride to Cardiff, coming from nowhere to win the title, riding through painful injuries. etc etc The BBC #SPOTY do seem to be getting some tweets about him. Need more though https://twitter.com/search?q=%23spoty%20woffinden&src=typd&f=realtime
