There was a speedway scaletrix equivalent, there's an ad or it in the 1985 world final programme.

Well blow me down. ........!!

I have never seen it anywhere, even in old Scalextric catalogues. .. Anyone got a copy of the 1985 speedway world final? Hmm, waihekeaces1, you sure you dont mean "Subbuteo Speedway" I know of that flicking game.... I also have a 1930's electric speedway, its actually a ripped off roulette game!! But quite rare it they work now, which mine does with a little tlc... and ALL the riders are present, inc the "Demon" rider!!

I'll have a look around for A scalextric speedway, but as I said, I have never seen one before or heard of one until you mentioned it.......

They could remember this year's SPOTY in much the same way as the one in the 1960s that many feel Barry Briggs was robbed of.

Briggo came 2nd in 1964 to Mary Rand, with Anne Packer 3rd (in an Olympic Year) and he also came 2nd in 1966 (the year of the English World Cup victory) to Bobby Moore, with Geoff Hurst 3rd-just goes to show how low Speedway has sunk-and that was prior to the days of the internet when campaigns could be stirred up on Facebook and/or Twitter!

I ve just dug out the program for another look. The game is called broadside. The track has slots which look like they are for scaletrix style rscing, but it is possible that the riders would be flicked round instead. I can email you a pdf of the ad if u pm me ? The conpany was ghw organisation, I renember my psrents enquired about the game but never heard back. Google doesnt seem to bring up any references.

We did hear back from the makers of broadside in 1985,the quote was for around £300

Hmmm! So, was it a bespoke to your your order then? You had to order with rider colour spec and they would make the set for you for £300? Blimey, wonder how much today for one.....? £600+

Do you know anyone who had/purchased a set? And did you flick the bike/rider bogies around or were they powered? Looks quite good...

Wonder if any sets still exist today?

I don't think 'Broadside' ever went into production. At the time a couple from Bradford, John and Barbara Baker, had a successful little business producing hand painted toy speedway using riders produced by Britains Ltd. When the Britains models went out of production they bought the casts. They told me that they had been approached to produce all the riders for the new game even to the extent of articulating the rider's limbs so that it turned with the bike. I would love to have purchased a set but the price was way out of my reach.

The Bakers also created a set of rules for table top racing using dice, and even launched a postal British League. The Bakers game was different to Subbuteo speedway as racing took place on a marked out track whereas with Subbuteo the riders had to be flicked around the track.

So tonights the night for Speedway fans to show the BBC and SPOTY that we dont support them either.

Not watching or interested.

We already have our own winner thanks !

Sadly a boycott of SPOTY by speedway fans is unlikely to dent the Beeb's viewing figures. Put it into ratio - how many know of the proposed boycott? And how many speedway fans pro rata follow the action on the BSF?

How many overall BSF fllowers do you think will back the boycott?

Well that's three of us who can sleep soundly tonight (stevebrum, telboy68, pugwash).

From small things...

Was flicking the sports channels last night and when I went on BT Sport to check the score of the Stenhousemuir/Rangers match obviously there was no football to watch as the game was off. Instead they had a studio based programme in which they were introducing a poll for the "Minority Sports Person of the Year". One of the 5 nominations was a certain "Tea" Woffinden.

Couldn't see any reference to the poll on their web site last night, but they said the result will be announced next weekend.

Might be suitable for all on this thread who felt miffed by the Beeb's snubbing of our sport.

Apologies if already posted elsewhere - but I couldn't see anything.
