martin_t
Yes, indeed I was taking the pee...After some of the nonsense on this subject elsewhere over the weeks it was difficult to tell :-)
The White Knight
WK, you are making yourself look very foolish. Nobody is criticizing golf or suggesting it isn't a sport. Only White Knight is being foolish with his suggestion that darts isn't a sport because fat people can do well at it. He is of course talking utter rubbish. I would actually state that someone like Phil Taylor puts in more training/practice for his sport than most other sportsmen do. The comparison with golf was made in that if darts is not a sport, then neither is golf. Of course they both are. Well BW - whilst you are having a go at me - you are leaving someone else alone. I take all the points for and against Darts being a Sport on board and on balance - I don't think it is. However - some things are all about opinion - I have mine, and you have yours which is just as it should be. I would never be so crass as to say that YOU are looking foolish or of talking rubbish if I disagreed with you, because that is not my debating style - very obviously it is yours. A great shame really as I do enjoy reading most of your Posts - but - you tend to lose your argument when you resort to name calling. I may look foolish to some - but at least I know how to debate properly. Edited November 29, 2013 by The White Knight

Now, not only is that wrong, it also very offensive. I am still waiting for your explanation why golf is a sport as 'fat people' can be successful at that too. What about NFL? Is that a sport? There are many 'fat' players. Even Rugby Union has had its share of 'fat people' over the years. Are you suggesting these aren't sports? As it stands, that is your only comment on the subject, so YES you are looking foolish AND offensive. Over to you to clarify.
pugwash
I'll arbitrate:- Darts is a sport on SKY. Darts is not a sport on EUROSPORT. Edited November 29, 2013 by pugwash

As far as I am concerned - I have my opinion which I believe is as valid as yours. I was NOT offensive to anyone by saying that Dart Players are Fat and not Fit I was stating something I consider to be a fact. Being Fat does not necessarily prevent you from being good at certain Sports like Golf, Archery - however - by and large it is better if you are slim and FIT. Darts is a Game played in Pubs and has always been a GAME. In my lifetime I have seen a Pub Game taken by Television and suddenly it is turned in to a Sport - RUBBISH - it is still a Game. That is my opinion BW - you may not like it - but - I am sticking to it. Fancy a Game of Darts.

The White Knight
Isn't a sport something where people compete against each other.? Not really - Tiddlywinks, Blow Football, and Snakes and Ladders spring to mind. You compete against others in those Games too.

The White Knight
Combat sport. I always came first Don't knock tiddlywinks, that takes real skill. I wouldn't dream of knocking it - it does take skill as does Darts - but it isn't a Sport.
BWitcher
I wouldn't dream of knocking it - it does take skill as does Darts - but it isn't a Sport. All sports began as recreational activtiies, or GAMES. Regardless WK. You are wrong, in every single aspect. Its not something that is even up for 'opinion'. Darts meets the definition of Sport in every single way. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sports#Board_sports References the World Sports Encylopedia which, guess what, Darts is there of course. Definition of sport " an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment" Darts meets the criteria. It is also officially classified by Sport England as a Sport. So it's not 'opinion'. Its Fact.

Probably developed and used by the Picts keeping Scots like TWK over on his bit of land up North.

It is according the BWitchers definition.....or should it be "activity involving physical exertion and/or skill"?But the definition isn't the b all and end all i think.Practically any game needs one or other or both.....conkers,tossing the caber, tossing a welly, tossing a dwarf..... moxey63
There's a fine line between darts and whether it's a sport or a game. Sad thing is, people know the names of more darts' players than any current-day speedway riders. Is snooker a sport or game; is golf? More so... is fishing? Shooting is a sport and the bullets are propelled by something other than the man/woman who is called a sportsperson. Not much exertion for them

iris123
They have to pull the trigger, that's a physical exertion Yes,but that sort of minimal exertion can be found in monopoly or buckaroo Tug of war. Now,is it a sport?Or should i say,is it still a sport? As it used to be in the Olympics i think,so was obviously at the time a sport. Now i don't know.Bagpipe playing has far more exertion that shooting and you do get world championships.......just as you do with snare drumming
