RobMcCaffery
Wouldnt all this be solved if second strings were forced to ride at no.5? No, reserves might be paired with their own second strings or fellow reserve but would still face opposition heat-leaders. Someone earlier posted that this was an easy solution. It isn't. Using the current formula but applying this 'simple' switch and assuming the third heat-leader moves from 5 to 4, reserves would be up against opposition heat-leaders in heats 6, 7, 9, 11 and 14 - scarcely protecting reserves from heat-leaders, eh? It's going to take a bit more effort than one riding position switch. Edited February 12, 2014 by rmc
mrlincolncity
There is one format that I developed when they were looking a something different for the KO Cup and with a few little changes it could work here ..... but it will NOT be the new race format. Basically there would be a reserves race in heats 1 and 8 with the other races having just one programmed rider and one nominated rider for each team. This would give team managers a job to try and get the best out of each race by nominating the right ridr at the right time. This is an example only of a match between Wolves and Kings Lynn In heats 2-7 each team selects a top 5 rider ineach of the heats and one reserve. (A rider can only be nominated once in these heats obviously.)Then in heats 9-14 this is repeated. NOTE; Before the meeting starts, each team manager hands in his nominated riders for heats 2-7. Then once heat 8 is run, they must had in their nominations for races 9-14. These are done on official sheets/cards and can NOT be seen by the opposing manager so the can't manipulate who their top rider faces. < HT01; Ashley Morris, Joe Jacobs, Lewis Kerr, Lewis Rose > HT02 ; Tai Woffinden, .............. , Kenneth Bjerre, .............. > HT03 ; Ricky Wells, .............. , Rory Schlein, .............. < HT04 ; Jacob Thorssell, .............. , Roger Lambert, .............. > HT05 ; Tyron Proctor, .............. , Nicolas Porsing, .............. < HT06 ; Joe Jacobs, .............. , Lewis Rose, .............. > HT07 ; Piotr Pawlicki, .............. , Niels K Iversen, .............. > HT08 ; Joe Jacobs, Ashley Morris, Lewis Rose, Lewis Kerr < HT09 ; Ricky Wells, .............. , Nicolas Porsing, .............. > HT10 ; Jacob Thorssell, .............. , Roger Lambert, .............. < HT11 ; Tyron Proctor, .............. , Rory Schlein, ............. < HT12 ; Piotr Pawlicki, .............. , Kenneth Bjerre, .............. > HT13 ; Ashley Morris, .............. , Lewis Kerr, .............. < HT14 ; Tai Woffinden, .............. Niels K Iversen, .............. <>HT15 ; .............. , .............. , .............. , .............. This gives the reserves two races together, but they could be out with anyone in the other two heats however it is unlikely a team will select a top rider in these races as this could mean they have two consecutive races and would want to place their top men against the opposing top men. They will face a reserve however in each race Each teams fifth rider face each other twice in programmed rides but are likely to be alongside a heat leader in their two nominated races to avoid two races in a row. Gate positions are riders in Red and White taking the inside gates. Teams can flick a coin to decide which set of gates they wish to take. The options are races marked < or > Heat 15 remains a nominated race for the top scorers / heat leaders. NOTE; This is only an example of a format I developed a few years ago This 8is how it could look after managers have nominated < HT01; Ashley Morris, Joe Jacobs, Lewis Kerr, Lewis Rose > HT02 ; Tai Woffinden, Jacob Thorssell , Kenneth Bjerre, Niels K Iversen > HT03 ; Ricky Wells, Piotr Pawlicki , Rory Schlein, Lewis Rose < HT04 ; Jacob Thorssell, Ashley Morris , Roger Lambert, Nicolas Porsing > HT05 ; Tyron Proctor, Tai Woffinden , Nicolas Porsing, Rory Schlein < HT06 ; Joe Jacobs, Ricky Wells, Lewis Rose, Kenneth Bjerre > HT07 ; Piotr Pawlicki, Tyron Proctor , Niels K Iversen, Robert Lambert > HT08 ; Joe Jacobs, Ashley Morris, Lewis Rose, Lewis Kerr < HT09 ; Ricky Wells, Piotr Pawlicki , Nicolas Porsing, Robert Lambert > HT10 ; Jacob Thorssell, Joe Jacobs , Roger Lambert, Kenneth Bjerre < HT11 ; Tyron Proctor, Tai Woffinden , Rory Schlein, Lewis Kerr < HT12 ; Piotr Pawlicki, Ricky Wells , Kenneth Bjerre, Niels K Iversen > HT13 ; Ashley Morris, Jacob Thorssell , Lewis Kerr, Nicolas Porsing < HT14 ; Tai Woffinden, Tyron Proctor Niels K Iversen, Rory Schlein <>HT15 ; .............. , .............. , .............. , .............. Love this. Great idea
weatherwatcher
With all the people going on here about the stops and starts with the heats, maybe it is time to change the whole format. Make it 16 heats with a difference. That is 64 laps. Make the start of the race with the 2 top points leaders from each team to do 4 laps, they then return to the pits and another 4 can then come out first on the track gets the best chance, Then you just carry on racing no stops or starts, you have to use all 7 riders at some point, it dosn't matter how many laps they do at the end of the 60th lap the 2 top riders from each team come out to finish the last 4 laps. Any rider crashing out or breaking down moves to the cetral area until the racing finishes and another rider comes out in his place. Just one continual 64 lap race. Just a stupid idea, only problem with this is that evry one would yhen complain that the racing time was far to short as it would be all over before you could bat your eyelids. TesarRacing
Funny old breed us speedway supporters. We bemoan the fact that the sport needs to change and address the problems facing it. The governing body makes some significant changes for this year, which I think are going to be good for the sport and hopefully make it more exciting. There will be teething problems of course and things to sort out but if you want changes you have got to live with that. Now everyone seems to have a problem that the format is not in the public domain yet!!!
RobMcCaffery
Now everyone seems to have a problem that the format is not in the public domain yet!!! No, no, NO! The concerns are not over the timing of release of the format but the problems associated with creating the format and concerns that if the BSPA get it wrong it could ruin the 2014 season! The only genuine concern about it not being released yet is whether it's proving unworkable and we're going to seed a botched compromise. We are now just four weeks away from the first team match. Yes people want change, but preferably positive change that works! Edited February 18, 2014 by rmc

They made changes every year because the year before they got it wrong .The changes they have made this year are garbage again and will no doubt only last a year . It's quite clear that the powers that be have a problem with the format hence why it is not in the public domain .

DizzAssStar
The impossible question what can the promoters do to make every speedway fan happy. Simple answer is NOTHING............. 80% of English folk (I am English before anyone starts) are never happy unless they are moaning and being generally negative about everything with everyone they come into contact with............... (out of interest they are known as "mood hoovers"). So in short the answer is nothing?

I suppose that at the end of the day - that is all that really matters...................................................................... Just WHY are people stressing over a blooming race formula?? No doubt it is known and awaiting confirmation - if it hasn't already. I don't blame the promotions for not letting anyone know the format yet. Why should they give details just so people can go print there own formula! It is simply - if you REALLY want to know the formula get to the first meeting you can and BUY a programme. Good PR as far as i can see ;-) As is the usual, Speedway fans moaning about anything and everything. For me, i will know the format when i attend my first team meeting of the year. Why would i stress over something before that!! Just saying

The product is 15 heats, just as in previous recent seasons, with most clubs offering a discount on 2014 season tickets!! Whats not to like???!! Not sure if there will be start girls or a decent centre green presenter at every meeting, so might be worth stalling some more....!!!!
