manchesterpaul
Why oh why can we not get back to British League Division One (Elite) and British League Division Two (Premier) - I would be more than happy with that. We should get rid of those two misnomers immediately. I presume it's for the same reasons that football once they created the 'Premier' league renamed their Division 1 to the Championship (and Divisions 3 and 4 are now 2 and 3) it was to elevate the perceived quality. No longer does football have division 4 teams and no longer does speedway have a British division 2
pandorum
Not may, it is the highest level of standard. Therefore it IS the Elite. If you can name me a stronger league in the UK, you have a point. If you can't, it remains the Elite. They should go for honesty and call it 'Thereasonablydecentleague(comparedtoEurope)thatisBritishthoughcompletelyheldinEnglandbutconsistsmostlyofforeignersmostofwhomrideforotherteamsinEurope' League. Then TWK would find nothing to fault that description. Although they might have trouble with the captions and race jackets. Also they should call Team GB England for short
orion
I have 'Liked' a number of your Posts too steve - including this one. My reason - because I respect ALL Speedway Supporters of whatever Club or League and if I have given the impression that I don't - then I apologise. It is the word 'Elite' that gets to me - I previously admitted that the word 'Premier' was unfortunate too. Why oh why can we not get back to British League Division One (Elite) and British League Division Two (Premier) - I would be more than happy with that. The El is the correct name thou as is the strongest league in the uk ..the only misnomer is the Pl name .

The Premier League has 13 members, the Elite only 10. And many EL reserves would not get into the PL. Are you sure the EL is stronger? BWitcher
Whilst I accept your statement at present. It may NOT be so for much longer. The gap between the two IS narrowing. The future is irrelevant, its the present that matters. You herby admit that any Elite League team would beat a Premier League one. That quite simply makes the Elite League the highest level of racing in the UK, which means it is the 'Elite'. The name is 100% accurate. BWitcher
NO!!! You're being childish now WK. Name me a league of a higher level in the UK please? Definition of Elite "a group of people considered to be superior in a particular society or organization." The Elite League is superior to the Premier League, you've admitted that as any EL team would beat a PL team. The name is correct, it doesn't matter how much you stamp your feet and refuse to accept it. Edited February 4, 2014 by BWitcher

It is YOU who are perpetuating this discussion about Elite/Premier not me. There IS no League higher than the so called Elite League. By it's composition it is NOT Elite. BWitcher
You need to get out more. Final word on this subject - I will not trade insults with you on a Public Forum.. You need to learn the English Language WK. I've taken the time to demonstrate to you why the given name of the League is accurate. You have even agreed with the explanation, but choose to invent your own meaning for a word in the English language.
racers and royals
None of it relevant to the thread !!!! If this new Elite racing format ends up with considerably harder riding positions(no 1`s meeting each other up to 4 times ?? )than other positions,I can imagine several riders beating a path to the promoters door before a wheel is turned in anger unhappy with the deal they had agreed. stevebrum
Whilst I accept your statement at present. It may NOT be so for much longer. The gap between the two IS narrowing. That was the argument made seasons ago. The weakest EL teams whipped the floor with the PL best. And would do so this next and many seasons as long as there is a top level league. The gap between the two is not narrowing when you have some teams with 1 or 2 GP riders. In terms of EL standard it has indeed got weaker, but no PL team would get close to beating a full strength EL team. ME childish. It is YOU who are perpetuating this discussion about Elite/Premier not me. There IS no League higher than the so called Elite League. By it's composition it is NOT Elite. Have you learned nothing? You have continued the one man crusade to try tell us what a fraud the EL is and shown your disdain at some for EL snobbery. And yet you STILL want to go over old ground. I thought we had agreed BOTH leagues are inappropriately named?? As long as the PL carries the name incorrectly , then the EL by the same definition is the correct name despite it being named incorrectly. PLEASE give it a rest because it is getting a little tedious trying to educate us to something we all know. By defending your league as the PL it looks rather silly defending an inappropriately named league that isn't looking after its future or youth by berating the EL for being inappropriately named and dis-organised. I have said it before and so i will say it again, if you really want to continue down this route then you are heading for arguments. As long as the PL carries the name inappropriately then the EL also carries the name inappropriately. Continue to fault find all you want, for every EL fault there will be a PL one to match. None of it relevant to the thread !!!! In fairness it is only ONE person who seems intent on arguing with the obvious. I am guessing they just cant help themselves.
