When Is A Rider Considered Too Good?

Recommended Posts

All Brits, every single one of them should be allowed to ride PL if they so wish and PL team wishes to employ them as long as they're not racing in any of the league's on the Continent. Regardless of average or age we have to try and keep our own employed. Riding in the EL alone isn't financially viable

I don't think you should try to force a rider to move into the top league just because he has a high average you might end up losing that rider to the sport.

Going back to my younger days I remember the likes of Richard Knight Mark Loram & Chris Louis moving up from the old National League in to the top flight while one of the best riders of the time Andy Galvin stayed put with Hackney in the National League.

No matter how great the set up is riders will always choose to ride at a level that suites them.

The doubling up rule should only be in place for the reserves however I think we are too far down that road now i doubt there are enough riders to restrict it to reserves only.

It will be interesting to see what the real gap between el & pl is next season.

Flip side of that is I believe Craig Cook has all the tools to be a top level rider, but if he has any ambition he needs to be riding abroad on a regular basis and not in the PL, but I also understand that this requires more backing and more expense, so it is kind of a double edged sword for the lad.

He's very keen to ride abroad but because of his EL average he is rated at the same level as GP riders in both Sweden and Denmark, so hasn't secured a place there. He has offers from Poland but possibly from clubs where other riders have had problems.

Perhaps this something the British authorities should remember when assessing riders coming in the other way.

It must be easy to reassess the conversion rate.

There were plenty of d/u last year so it would be a good sample size.

Total up all the scores in both leagues and find an average average and see what the real ratio is.

The biggest problem is having the correct info.

Look wheat happened the last time they did it.:nono::D

the last alteration was more political than statistical though.

If nothing else it would be interesting to know what last years true ratio was.

(for those of us that are calculator nerds anyway!!)

ermmmm these are the figures, first one is the riders EL ave, 2nd is PL ave. So now what Bruv?

Edit: by dividing the EL score by the PL score we get the ratio right?

eg Cook 7.40/10.52 = 0.70 So by doing that for all 24 riders, adding the figures and then dividing by 24 we will get the real conversion.

Which happens to be 0.6167, so the BSPA seem to have something right! Unless my workings are wrong!

Craig Cook 7.40 10.52
Jason Doyle 7.30 9.79
Ben Barker 6.47 9.44
Edward Kennett 6.39 10.65
Nick Morris 5.90 8.84
Richie Worrall 5.78 8.64
Ty Proctor 5.78 9.22
Ricky Wells 5.35 7.81
Olli Allen 5.19 8.09
Josh Auty 4.90 7.25
Richard Lawson 4.80 8.28
Aaron Summers 4.79 7.14
Stuart Robson 4.63 7.2
Rohan Tungate 4.59 7.05
Josh Grajczonek 4.48 8.41
Ludvig Lindgren 4.48 7.28
Ulrich Ostergaard 4.43 7.58
Kyle Howarth 4.28 6.86
Lasse Bjerre 4.28 7.44
Dakota North 4.23 6.55
Kozza Smith 3.76 7.15
Tyson Nelson 3.59 6.16
Micky Dyer 3.42 7.58
Ashley Birks 3.06 7.3

How about if you want to market having the best around you go EL?!

But it ISN'T is it?

It might (arguably) have the best Riders - but certainly on the evidence of the last few Seasons on the Television it doesn't have the BEST Racing. Let's face it THAT is what we go to watch.
