East Of England Showground 2014 (open Meetings Possible?)

Just wondering about Peterborough Speedway, and if it would be possible for any meetings there this coming 2014 season??

For instance, could the prem league 4's still be held there? Perhaps the ELRC and PLRC, or any other individual events........?

Is this a possibility?

It would have a certain neutrality about it, just not sure on the legalities and how/who could organise the meetings.......?

It would be VERY sad if one of the acknowledged best Tracks in Speedway were lost to the Sport.

I am still hoping that someone will come in and take over at Peterborough. Perhaps in the Premier League where I am sure they would be welcome.

Sorry, I should have put in that post "Worst Case Scenario" if nobody does come in, then to have 4/5 top quality race meets would at least keep the place in mind and prevent some obvious decline in local interest and at least the track would get some attention rather than no speedway activity at all on it.....

Good idea, should the bspa itself take over the licence and run thoses events, all the super 7s( sorry nearly laughed myself there, its the word super does it to me everytime) and the world cup meeting as it is a FIM track.

Would the BSPA be prepared to indulge itself in what would be a speculative venture? Were they to do so, I think that the costs of promotion would have to be borne by a subsidy on all tracks - EL, PL and NL - to pay for the venture. That's because a BSPA promotion at the end of the day would be made to publicise the sport rather than business reasons.

Alternatively, the promotional costs could be borne by any income from the still hoped for TV deal.

Can't see it happening. Similar sentiments were expressed when Oxford closed, but nothing came of it.

The idea of the shared events is to generate as much revenue as possible, which is why neutral venues are rarely used. No home promotion to host the meeting would be logistically difficult and I suspect too much to gamble.

Best hope is a new promotion at PL level.

Only ever been to the EOS for the BMF Rally where they had Sidecar Speedway and always promised myself I would go there for regular Speedway so it would be great if something could be sorted but if the owners of the venue are inflexible about regular race nights and if there is pressure from the occupants of the new housing adjacent to it then I fear it probably wont happen.

The occupants of the new housing are on the back foot at the moment as the speedway was there first , That is why some speedway needs to be run at the showground in 2014 , 1 season of no speedway and that will be it forever because a lapse in use will mean the nimbies are in the driving seat and that will be Game over for speedway at EOES

You are definitely right there Jim. Sadly if there is no Speedway next Season at the EOES that will be the finish.:sad:

I think a dose of PL Speedway could be good for Peterborough and their fans. They will have a greater number of teams to race against and perhaps be able to create a home grown team. Maybe a part team swap with Leicester?

I agree with that Ray, and Boro have enough assets to track a very solid team in the premier lge..

Imo this is a great idea, all super 7 events are shared anyway, surely if the bspa went to the showground people and said we would like to run say 5 e ents there a deal could be reached, as has been said, fours, pl nl and el riders, british senior and u21, pairs all sorts come on bspa look at it, lets face it e everything in place just if sold you may have to hire tractors and bring in airfence.

Every so often we see on the Forum that a speedway club is closing or reopening. If a club is going to be reopen and then doesn’t why cant that club buy another club. For example Norwich was going to reopen and now according to news its not going to happen. So why not say ok we will travel down the road where a club is for sale and buy that track ie Peterborough. That way they still own a club and another track doesn’t get closed down.
