steve19620
Hi there. As part of my research into the 1975 season, I am trying to confirm the correct heat results/point scorers for this £100 challenge meeting. Both the Speedway Star and Speedway Mail points scorers advise Rick France and Mike Hiftle both scored 6 points for Halifax. Howver, the heat results advise that France scored 7 and Hiftle 5 points. It is possible that heat 1 may have been won by Hiftle and not France. Does anybody have a marked programme from this meeting to confirm whether the points scores or the heat results are correct ? Thanks for reading. Steve Edited November 13, 2013 by steve19620
Grand Central
My, rather childishly scrawled, programme from 1975 shows that Mike Hiftle won Heat 1, with Rick France second. Both scored six points.
nw42
Can't help with the scores I'm afraid but thanks for the post, it was enough to take me back to some of the many trips to The Shay me and my dad made back in the day. We very rarely missed the Dukes away because, like us, they rode on Saturdays as a rule. We always stood near the apex of the first turns and the view was spectacular, proper Yorkshire announcer. As for Mike Hiftle, when he was at Belle Vue he had some very smart blue leathers but he seemed to suffer too many engine failures. Am I right in thinking he did better at Halifax when he moved? steve19620
Thank you both for answering my query. I did'nt see Mike Hiftle ride for the Dukes (I remember him riding for Berwick at Thornton Road). You're right, Statistically speaking Mike Hiftle was more effective as an Duke than an Ace. EnglishRoundabout
I loved my trips to the Shay. It did seem like travelling to the other side of the world from the south of England though! Spectacular racing on a unique track. Grey shale as well! Great days. EnglishRoundabout
I saw a post from someone recently who's avatar was a picture of the famous old Shay. I was going to re-visit the post and enlarge the avatar but I forgot to do it. Anyone know who that poster is please?
