As far as i know the Rye fence has been ordered,.As yet i have not heard anything regarding the fence at Kent ..Sharing is unlikely would you fancy moving it and resetting it up twice a week ,i would be surprised if it was an option . with there being no other sports at Rye it may not have to be moved only deflated...

As I did mention the logistics would be an issue, though not insurmountable.

Sidecars probably not allowed under current planning permission - or at least that's the reading of the situation. A shame as I agree always good to see the sidecars in action where possible.

That's a very valid explanation. It looks as though two meetings scheduled for Peterborough will be the only time we'll see them on a speedway in 2014.

As there is talk here of sharing an Air Fence what about 2 tracks that really close together like CP and Iwade ? Then maybe Iwade won`t close down ?

Are you sure Iwade are affected by the need for an Air Fence? I thought it was only tracks competing in league competition so far as the UK is concerned.

And not wishing to divert too much from the actual thread - National League Speedway - I haven't seen any mention of Air Fences for tracks outside Europe (USA, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Canada) nor even in the smaller European nations.

Of local interest, what is the latest on the Air Fence that will be needed by Kent Kings for the 2014 season?

I saw Connor Coles ride at Mildenhall last season ,and he looked a better rider there ,than at Kent ,i think it is a good move for him providing he can keep his bikes up to scratch, he should improve his average ,and starting at reserve will also help him ,,He is a nice lad hope he does well

Mildenhall obviously see something in Connor that the Kent promotion don't, they build a team every year to win the league so it will now be even more interesting to see who the 2 Kings reserves are. With the announcement they will be 2 new riders to the Kings you would hope that, having let Connor and Adam go, after full seasons in the NDL, the 2 new lads have some league experience or are unknown top notch amateurs.

Can't see it being Freemantle myself now unless certain things change, although he would be my choice now.

Be 2 very interesting signings and lets just hope the promotion are not building the whole teams season around one of these new lads in case they don't sign.

It took the Kings over half a season to get over that "cock up" last winter.

You are correct.

The notion that Iwade might close because of no air fence has gained currency due to letter by Malcolm Simmons published in last week's Star.

I am fairly certain Iwade is NOT closing down and I am certain it (Iwade training track, that is) does NOT need to comply with the rule affecting league clubs about needing an air fence.

Do you know if training tracks *at league clubs* e.g Scunny need air fences?

Phillips and Freemantle would be good ,, And yes im sure Coles will improve dramatically at Mildenhall,, more because of the track ,than the promotion though with top quality ex riders running the place thats bound to help...He was better round Rye the year before than he ever was at Kent..

There is a possibility, that needs clarification, the Air Fences are only required for bona fide meetings under BSPA sanction. As training sessions are not competitive meetings probably not - and may be not even in a challenge match between training standards teams.

However, this obviously needs to be discussed with the BSPA.

A FULL EXPANATION FOR THE ABSENSE OF 1000cc SIDECARS AT CP

By someone who knows......

After a very brief conversation earlier in the year with Len with regard to their appearance it was decided to discuss the idea later as the season unfolded.

As promised ( I must admit much to my surprise) Len approached me midway through the season and asked if I could us my contacts to put a programme together. As some of you know being an avid supporter (and driver of chairs) it was a case of Thunderbirds are Go.

Now bear in mind that was 9pm of a Monday night meeting.

I should add at about 9.15 the same night a conversation with Roger confirmed the proposal.

So, with the tapes up off I rode. By approx. 5pm n the Tuesday, 4 teams had been confirmed (all licensed), 4 outfits (all correctly silenced,TRC eligable). SCB approval granted. Insurance covered. Press officer informed, programme editor informed, commercial manager informed, track photographer informed. All of which did their bit to get it in the programme for the following week.

So what went wrong?

Neither Len nor Roger had realised that when tapes go up in sidecar racing things move that fast and to be fair to them both none of us had the opportunity to discuss the exercise in depth. When we did the following was discussed.

The planning was not technically a problem because it did not breach SPEEDWAY racing albeit on sidecars.

The silencing again not technically a problem all outfits use TRC approved silencers.

Simply it was logistical. We all know there is a strict 8.30 curfew but some may not know there is (under planning) only 15 races + 2 allowed. Now you can all see where this is leading.

Yes there was slight concern over the additional noise which was to have been overcome by only running 2 outfits as a demo, things were still techy with our friend in the village. The main problem was jeopardising heat numbers that maybe needed for the solos.

So with the expense for the teams to attend and their wish not to rock the boat for CP in the 1st year and the possibility of not riding a gentleman's agreement was made to cancel their appearance.

BUT, the big chairs are still keen so, get on the managements case and get them to contact me in 2014.

Was just wondering as they hold Dragons events and Southern track riders meeting so may well need 1

Scunny always put up their airfence; amateur, practice, league meetings but it would be interesting to see if they make it a requirement
