Humphrey Appleby
It can work both ways. Sometimes I deliberately don't want to renew something and get irritated by people calling me to ask why not (usually because the renewal price is more than what they charge new customers). I think a better approach is to have more reliance on electronic means - making it easy to renew online and sending reminders via e-mail or whatever. At the end of the day though, it comes down to making an interesting publication so that people are keen to renew. The Spar's move to electronic publishing has got me back as as subscriber for the next year, so the challenge is to try to keep me!
waiheke1
planning to take out an online sub, interested to know whether people think there is enough in the mag to justify subscribing over the off season, or whether i'm better off just subscribing from late march once the season is imminent Edited December 18, 2013 by waihekeaces1
TwoMinuteWarning
No XTRA this week. Is it delayed? Or has it been stopped now there's an online version of the Star? If so, can you please print the Rye House match-by-match scorers to go with the published track review?

Jonny the spud
Is this weeks online edition the same as the printed one ? I.e. half full of stuff that should be in a vintage speedway magazine and not worth the money ? FFS chaps if i wanted to subscribe to a vintage publication i'd search one out

It's design and layout is top class while I see nothing wrong with the reading comment or standard of writing.

WE actually had to produce three issues this week - with one key member of the production staff absent through illness - to meet print requirements over the Christmas period but Xtra will return and catch up with all the track review details shortly. Thanks gustix ... the features on British World Champions has proved very popular. But you cannot please all of the people all of the time.

I do have "a little experience" of magazine and newspaper production and can readily appreciate what you must have coped with this week. PHILIPRISING
Whats happened to the xmas edition drawing on the front cover this year? WE felt it had run its course ... but hoping to get Bob Hoare to do something different on Tai. His tattoos might be a challenge!
salty
Thanks gustix ... the features on British World Champions has proved very popular. But you cannot please all of the people all of the time. Have to say I have really enjoyed the Best of British series. Much prefer to read such an in depth feature than the track by track news, which, in my opinion, is the weakest area of the magazine, particularly in the off season. There is also a lack of real News in the Winter - or perhaps you would prefer a smaller Speedway Star? Guest
For 'Speedway Star', so far as speedway racing results are, concerned, those from Australia lead the way plus European ice racing and some results from Argentina are the main coverage. Apart from that there's very little action in New Zealand - three tracks operating on an irregular dates - and South Africa (I think with one track on a monthly basis). That's why history features and track reviews of necessity are the winter lifeblood of the sport for 'Speedway Star'. In pre-WW2 days the main magazine, 'Speedway News' used to cease for the close season, apart from a subscription paid irregular news sheet which was mailed to those who were interested. ciderman
Loved the Class of 94 article this week, os this going to be a feature for all the tracks. I'ts interesting seeing what riders have done with their lives after racing. Keep up the good work.

foamfence
I've enjoyed my online version so far and there have been plenty of current topics and announcements. I'd hate to see it go under, so I like to keep offering my support. I don't know if anything has changed with the history/nostalgia stuff but I'm finding it more absorbing than in previous versions. PHILIPRISING
WE made a decision to cut down on the domestic news sections every other week and only include what was truly "news worthy" and to include more features during the winter months. Judging by sales figures that has been justified and the online editions have also proved popular. Thanks to those who continue to support SS.
