COVENTRY Storm are delighted to announce the signing of National League title-winner Dan Greenwood for the 2014 season.
Greenwood, 20, was a member of the all-conquering Dudley team which clinched the League and Cup double, and he played a key role as he hit his best form of the campaign at the crucial stage.
The Storm have moved quickly after Greenwood was ruled out of the Heathens’ plans for next year due to other changes to their proposed team.
He has extensive experience of Brandon after appearing for the Mercia Vikings in the Midland Development League in 2012, and he put that to good use in his visits last season.
In a guest booking for the Isle of Wight, he won a high-quality Heat 13 in a race which also featured Charles Wright, Robert Branford and James Sarjeant – and he also got the better of Storm skipper Sarjeant in one of the races of the season in the Supporters’ Pairs Trophy meeting in October.
Greenwood joins the Storm on what appears a bargain 5.74 average, and further team news is expected in the near future.
Co-boss Laurence Rogers said: “Dan is a rider I know very well as I brought him back into the sport at Newport in 2011 where he showed a great deal of promise.
“When Newport closed I helped him get a place at Dudley but also brought him to Coventry to do the MDL, which was a resounding success for him, and naturally I’ve kept close links with him.
“It was a no-brainer from my point of view when he became available, and Blayne (Scroggins) and Mick (Horton) agreed with that. I think it will be a very good move for Dan, and his race with Sarj in the Pairs was one of the best I saw in 2013 – at the end of the year, he was really in heat-leader form for the Heathens.
“He’s 110 per cent behind trying to retain his league winners’ medal in 2014, this time with Coventry, and he was actually trying to work out last night who else we could sign! That’s great enthusiasm and I’m sure he’ll settle in well with us.”

COVENTRY Storm have confirmed returns to Brandon next season for Luke Crang and Martin Knuckey.
The duo join new signing Dan Greenwood in the team for 2014 with several of the riders who gave the club a successful first National League campaign expected to be back.
Crang made an instant impact in his first year of racing, joining the Storm at the end of May and racing to an average of just under five, which included some major high-spots – most notably his match-winning performance at Buxton where he held his nerve to secure the points in a tense last-heat decider.
The 22-year-old, who became a Coventry asset at the end of the season, has also attracted the attention of Premier League clubs and will double-up with Redcar in 2014.
Cornishman Knuckey, 20, had a roller-coaster 2013 campaign which started well before off-track issues forced him to take a month out of the sport. However, he returned with renewed enthusiasm and the club are delighted to have him on board again for next year.
Storm co-boss Blayne Scroggins said: “I’m excited by the team so far, it’s looking like we will have several of the 2013 side back and hopefully there will be more deals confirmed shortly.
“It’s going to be a big year for Luke with him doubling-up with Redcar as well, and I’m sure he’ll be able to use his experience from last season to increase his average for us.
“Martin was so keen to come back to Coventry, so much so that he had the opportunity to go to a track 20 minutes from home, but he wanted to be here and once again it’s good to have a rider who is very much part of the Coventry set-up.”

Really chuffed that Luke & Martin have been signed up for next season. I am sure that can both kick on and improve in 2014.

Martin in particular looked a bit despondent at times last season but I am sure he will repay the faith shown in him by the promotion and team manager! :t:

COVENTRY Storm have made Ryan Terry-Daley their fourth signing for the 2014 National League season.
The 19-year-old will be going into his first full campaign of league racing, but he gained plenty of experience as part of the Coventry set-up this year.
Terry-Daley made six appearances for the Storm in 2013 as cover for absent squad members and showed good improvement, also scoring five points when he received a late call-up to the British Under-19 Final at Brandon.
He will team up with Martin Knuckey at reserve, joining Luke Crang and new signing Dan Greenwood as confirmed starters, with the Storm looking to finalise their heat-leader arrangements shortly.
Co-boss Blayne Scroggins said: “Ryan had some outings last season after coming through the Midland Development League, he’s been chomping at the bit and now he’s got the opportunity to prove himself.
“He’s a good team man and we saw this year that even when he wasn’t in the team he was in the pits helping out - he was voted Rider of the Year by our sponsors (City Gearboxes) for his commitment to the club.
“We’re pleased to have him in the team from the start, and it will mean another asset of the club racing for the Storm, which is all good for the future.”

DOUBLE British Under-19 Champion Stefan Nielsen will be the new No.1 for Coventry Storm in 2014.
Nielsen, who secured his second title on his first-ever visit to Brandon in September, is widely regarded as one of the country’s best prospects for the future – and he now heads up a City Gearboxes Storm side with clear potential to reach the National League play-offs and challenge for honours.
The 19-year-old was born in Denmark and has been racing since the age of four, and after returning to England he became mascot at King’s Lynn, whose junior system was at the time being run by current Storm co-boss Laurence Rogers.
Nielsen first rode in the National League for Scunthorpe, with whom he is a club asset, and he won back-to-back titles with the Saints in 2011 and then with Mildenhall as part of their Grand Slam the following year.
He had a spell in the Premier League last season with Somerset before being somewhat surprisingly released late in the campaign, and as part of the ‘fast track’ process for British youngsters he will line up for Belle Vue in the top flight in 2014.
With last year’s No.1 Joe Jacobs having returned to Mildenhall and significant doubts over whether Robert Branford will race in the UK next year, a new No.1 was a major priority for the Storm and they are delighted to get their man.
Rogers said: “Stefan was my mascot at King’s Lynn, I’ve always got on with him and his Dad, and Stefan had always said he was going to come and ride for me one day!
“He won the Under-19s at Coventry the first time he saw the track, and he’s chuffed to bits to be here. He’s got himself sorted out with workshops professionally done and having a mechanic on board, so he’s very well set up for the season ahead.
“If you look at availability of riders to be No.1 next year it was getting tight, so this is great news for us.”
Co-boss Blayne Scroggins added: “Joe is going to be a hard act to follow because he did such a great job last season, but we’re confident Stefan can do just that.
“I definitely think we’ve got a team that can make the play-offs - we just missed out after finishing fifth this year, so we feel we can make that step up and the boys are all confident they can do it. It’s an exciting team and we can’t wait to get started.
“I’d like to thank Rob Godfrey at Scunthorpe for his co-operation and also Laurence for his hard work to get this deal completed.”
CITY GEARBOXES COVENTRY STORM 2014: Stefan Nielsen, James Sarjeant, Oliver Greenwood, Dan Greenwood, Luke Crang, Martin Knuckey, Ryan Terry-Daley.

Im surprised NO Pl Team signed Stefan, which has made him available to sign for Storm, its a good signing for them, and puts them in a strong position for 2014, That Top four is looking the equal of any so far announced, and if that Team doesnt make the play offs, then Im a Dutch man.
