Will There Be Any Casualties This Winter

Recommended Posts

as this awful season draws to a close there are a few already a few tracks with uncertain futures. with falling crowds and the added cost of installing an air fence at some venues, will some clubs call it a day. let's hope they all survive to come to the tapes in 2014.

Let's hope that there are no closures - we will just have to wait and see I suppose.

Not awful if you are a Poole fan.

They won the league the rest doesnt matter

The other clubs should follow the Poole way then the sport would be all hunky-dory

Come on guys, spit it out.....don't be shy!!!!

Personally i don't think the amount of tracks operating is sustainable with the amount of outgoings + the crowd sizes. It is kept by the benevolence of a few promoters/sponsors digging deep and a lot of volunteers giving up their time.

I suspect there may be a quote problem that phil is working on - he has posted something in the support section

Come on Gav I'm a huge Poole fan but would give up League titles if it meant no speedway clubs had to close. As far as I'm concerned would rather speedway as a whole was back on a sure footing than glory for my selected clubs.

I hope this is now working, had some trouble yesterday!

Like TWK said, I truly hope there are no casualties. It is that time of year when we hold our breath though. Although the economic client is still not good and gates are still not good, I thought speedway was perhaps a little firmer, but maybe I am wrong. I haven't heard any rumours.

I suspect that much will depend on the Sky decision. If their support goes then I think the Elite League as we know it does with it. That would surely mean some EL teams wanting to drop down through the need to reduce their costs. It has the feel of 1964/5 with the top tier with too few teams and not enough backing. The amalgamation of the Leagues worked wonders then and the British league stood the test of time for many years.

I would hope that by cutting costs by reducing the influx of mediocre foreign riders and perhaps the Grand Prix stars the Sport can try to rebuild itself.

All that matters is that we have competitive racing. As I have said before National League racing is probably more exciting than the Elite League due to its unpredictability and inexperience of some riders. Its an entertainment game after all and as I have said before the current National League offering can be very good indeed. It's good racing that happens to be a second a lap slower than the EL. So what! You still feel that warm glow when your team wins just the same.

In terms of teams going out of business, I think the Heathens may struggle now that they have to buy all that silver polish. Only joking!

Fingers crossed there are no casualties.

I agree with this and have one thought that, perhaps, two leagues BL1 (Surviving EL & PL & NL???) & BL2 (EL, PL & NL) as a semi pro organised sport, which would be weaker than what we have now then a new National Development League running with 4 or 5 man teams as per the MDL now below that as a 4 Team Tournament over the whole Season.

Just a thought, but we are at 1964/5 all over with none of the big wigs from the Provincial League to knock heads together!
