Pearson Defends The Play-off... Desperate

Recommended Posts

Listening to Pearson on Sky tonight trying to defend the playoff in our Elite League made me wonder if he is a BSPA mouthpiece, rather than impartial journalist/commentator? I mean, how desperate is he for using the stupid comparison of the play-offs in the Championship to somehow justify using it in speedway. The Championship is used for 3-6th for promotion, not to decide who are league champions. Equally, the Premiership in football does not use play-offs to decide the league champions either. The play-offs to decide the league champions is pathetic, not to mention such weak arguments to defend it from the likes of Pearson.

They still have play-offs though. And the play-offs aren't pathetic either.

Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but they are actually quite popular.

It struck me that he was simply giving himself the best chance of employment next season. And who can blame him?

I think speedwayscorecards need to create a program so you can tick off all the phrases that Kelvin and him use.

It could add another element to televised meetings.

YOUR hatred of all things Pearson knows no bounds does it? It may have escaped your attention that Nigel is working for Sky. Why would he be impartial? Sky want and love the play-offs. So do thousands of others, as evidenced by the crowds that attend them.

With any luck, when Sky sod off next year, we can go back to having a proper league, decided by a full seasons effort, with a meaningful fixture list that does not end in early September...

The Play-Offs leave me feeling empty. They have robbed us of speedway longest-running competiton in the KOCup, largely because both Finals were played at roughly the same time and decided on aggregate. I prefer the whole-league-season scenario for the Championship race, matches were more important than the current crop, when you can jiggle a few results here and there and still clamber into the top four, have a bit of that stuff Popeye used to throw down his mouth, and then - surprise surprise, the weakling that we all thought was Tin-Tin's frail brother turns out to be the Poole Pirates, this time with a brand new team from the one we can remember from easter time.

The play offs are great. In 2005 finished top but lost to Coventry. We all know the rules at beginning if year

Poland and Sweden have it to so it must work

I'm probably just 1 of a very few but I hope Sky don't renew the speedway contract. Perfect opportunity to strip the sport back and start again. This could be a major step forward to saving speedway's future in the UK.

don't disagree with any of that ,+ some of the elite matches sky have shown is mind boggling they couldn't have picked worst matches and tracks if they tried , I honestly don't think theyve done the sport any favours with the cack they've shown this season

The Play off system is a great idea which is why other sports use them.

Whatever the sport does next year will involve Play offs.

They are a success so why dump them.

The sport has a hell of a lot wrong with it and this season has been one to forget for many reasons.

We will see next March how many teams have survived the winter and will see what brilliant strategy the BSPA have come up with to ensure the sport flourishes :)

I for one won't hold my breath.

As to Kel and Nig I am a supporter of them. I like them.

But sadly like the Poole v Everyone else saga the haters won't stop hating.

Well they should celebrate as apart from SGP and SWC they won't have to listen to either of them next year :)
