Joking aside, the qualifiers for the play off last year weren't an equal contest. I have had sympathy in past years for a team that loses out in the play-offs after winning the league when everyone has raced everyone else an equal number of times during the league season... The uneven numbers of meetings between teams last year made it clear that it was just a qualifying competition for the real title, which was the play-offs. When you add up the averages of the second strings, Birmingham WILL have the highest combined average for second strings in Adam Skornicki 6.14 and ............. Leicester however may be close with Peter Ljung and ................. and have built a team very much like Birmingham. Is the the last rider likely to be THJ then or has Matt greased his palm with silver to sit and wait until he needs him later in the season? I hear the request was made as to his availability. Two NL reserves that double or even treble up, plus two PL double uppers, not to mention foreign nationals who have a first duty to their parent country...it's almost an inevitability that one or more won't be able to be in the team more meetings than not. Jonasson has that "aura" about him, When he's in the pits.. He inspires the rest of the side. If somebody could compile a chart of Poole's matches last year without THJ and with THJ.. Each team will have a weak link but I doubt it will be this rider. Remarkably they have a team yet again where any of the top five could be#1 during the season. Matches will be close but a solid line up could benefit them in matches. All last year it looked like Birmingham were one of the best teams and they didn't have a true number one then. Results may have gone their way at times but they also threw away points towards the end and could have finished well ahead of the rest. Knowing how the season ahead will turn out is guess work really and everyone needs a bit of luck at times but Brummies should be formidable at home and the final rider is sure to be a key part of the team and his identity is easy to find !!!
