16 Lap Classic . Ipswich 17th October @ 7-30pm

Recommended Posts

Thought I'd get this one under way now the lineup is all but complete .

Confirmed so far

Ben Barker

Richie Worrall

Kevin Doolan

Ritchie Hawkins

Adam Skornicki

Morten Risager

Kyly Howarth

Richard Lawson

Rusty Harrison

Andre Compton

Nico Covatti

+ 1 TBC

A quite varied and intriguing lineup .

Already seen a couple of changes from the original field , Ronan Tungate and Jason Doyle obviously now withdrawn .

Its a shame from my point of view that so few Witches are involved but unavoidable injuries have had taken care of that .

Should see some interesting racing on the night and in what is usually a fitting finale we are so often shown that the ultimate winner is not always the best or fastest rider . I've seen riders half a lap ahead in the past only to run out of fuel or bike pack up when virtually in sight of the chequered flag .

16 laps in the final is the ultimate test of man and machine and I for one have absolutely no idea who's likely to win !

Opinions ?

How many laps is the final ?

Knowing how the Louis'* like to penny pinch, probably 4 these days!

What a terrible line-up for a once fabulous individual meeting that some great names have won.

*Substitute for pretty much any member of the BSPA

As a newbie, can I ask what the exact format of the meeting is likely to be and probably end time?

They have 12 riders competing over normal 4 lap races to qualify for an 8 rider 16 lap final , the 8 riders in the final go from 2 sets of starting gates and those starting from the back grid are given additional points to compensate for this . All would become clear ( Ish ) if you were able to attend . I would imagine the end time would probably be about 9-30 without too many crashes or reruns .

agreed but what were you expecting we arent in the elite anymore!

Barker and Worrall are there. Doyle and Cook declined.

Im going for a shock win in Risager to poodle round the white line for 16 laps

Not the most inspiring line up it has to be said. It used to be the opportunity to try a new rider or two out but no longer it seems.

It must be tricky getting riders to sign up for this nowadays though to be fair. As bruv has said above, used to be sponsored by the daily Mirror and I'm sure the prize money attracted the best.

With riders now riding so many meetings, do they really fancy a marathon individual event at the end of a long season, on more than likely modest (If any) prize money?

Things just ain't like they used to be!

FTG boring dustfest then

Might have been interested in giving it a look but the field is pretty unappetising and it's getting a bit chilly in the evening for marathon nights so I might not bother.

Can see why not many top class riders would want to hammer their bikes over 16 laps!!

It's the overall highest points scorer that wins the event.

Chris Mills completing the line-up = a popular rider (where popular can also be read as "local & cheap", i.e. Louis worked to a budget and once he had signed up EL big guns Skornicki and Covatti :o, there was not a lot left over).

i know that im an Ippo fan been to at least 20 16 lappers in my time. Im going for Risager though to accumulate decent points and then do ok in the 16 lapper itself

Got to admit It does look a bit of a tired effort. I fully appreciate an earlier post saying these days it must be tricky getting riders to do it, but even a couple of talented young newcomers with an eye on next year, would have captured the imagination a little more.

I have always loved the 16 lapper ever since I was a nipper in the 80's, and after another season where my interest has again waned, and not attended many meetings, I had this one down as one meeting I was going to attend.

But alas I'll now be spending the money on a nice meal out with the Mrs instead, and I'll enjoy that more.

I'd probably never had said that a couple of years ago. (Don't tell her I said that Badge  )

Pretty poor effort from Ippo here. Certainly has a look of "I can't really be ar$ed" from Louis.

Team A Team B

Barker Skornicki

Covatti Worrall

R/R R/R

Lawson Howarth

Risager Harrison

Compton Doolan

Hawkins Mills

Thats stronger than most PL matches would have so not such a poor field in that context.
