Coventry V Leicester (home & Away) 20&25th Oct

Recommended Posts

Damn!! So disappointing for the fans but even worse for the respective promotions after all the preparations. I'm really pleased the matches will be re-run but the email I've received from Leicester this morning says both will take place at the same times as previously arranged - Coventry at 12pm and Leicester at 6pm next Sunday. However, Neil should know so I'll take notice of him. :)

STOP PRESS: LEICESTER SPEEDWAY.

Today's fixtures for the East Midlands Bowl, both home and away, have had to be postponed due to the bad weather

Both meetings are rescheduled for next Sunday 20th October with a start time of 12.00 noon at Coventry and 6.00 pm at Leicester.

I did know that Gemini. It was more of a general observation about the way speedway is these days and fans having to put up with so many guests. This season has been appalling for it and the Bees may be using 'assets' but that doesn't make it a Bees team does it? Last time I looked Fisher, Barker and Tungate were all riding for other EL teams, which makes them guests, and Sargeant is a guest NL rider, albeit one from the Storm. Therefore, and this is my main point, for the promotions of both clubs to try and sell this to the public as a Bees v Lions fixture that rekindles those rivalries from days gone by is a joke. I used to love those meetings and was as passionate as anyone about beating the Bees but this is nothing like that and it's false to sell it as such in my opinion. To read the press releases you'd think it was Wilson v Boocock and Collins v Olsen all over again!!!

I'm not against them having a fixture of course (and Leicester certainly need to fulfill season ticket obligations for one thing!) but it's really more akin to an end of season open meeting than a once great rivalry between two historic clubs. This is nothing like it used to be with EIGHT guests included just to make it happen rather than anything like a meaningful Lions v Bees match. I just think they should've waited until (if) they ride against each in a competitive fixture that might actually mean something rather than this somewhat 'forced' challenge meeting only made possible by the use of a staggering amount of guests. Just my view of course and I expect there's plenty who are looking forward to it. Good for them but as a Lions fan of yesteryear I have no intention of bothering with either meeting.

The exact same thing happened with the Dudley vs Wolves fixture this year.Nigel Pearson waxing lyrical about history and long standing rivalries when in essence this seasons fixture had a Wolves team with actually no Wolves riders in it.For the record Dudley won both fixtures"to take the bragging rights"If promotions are going to run these fixtures then lets make a better job of it to make it attractive to both sets of supporters.

could you expand your answer please? why are the chances zero. of it being the same riders in the re staging of these meetings?

Sorry I missed something out.. .......Zero plus >>>>> :D

Seriously though I do hope it's the same riders as the teams were nicely balanced but I guess we will have to wait and see what happens on Sunday and the following Friday.

Ok thanks, from you answer i thought you may of had knowledge about some of the riders riding abroad or something like that? making them unavailable to ride in the 2 meetings.

I know nothing and never do. Just my attempt at making a jokey reply and I'm sorry it was misunderstood. Looking forward to going to Beaumont Park on Sunday and hoping the weather is going to be okay. Only decision to make now is do I dig out my old 1983 red/yellow scarf or wear my Bees 2010 one. Decisions, decisions.

Looks like there is just one change as far as I can tell - Lasse Bjerre out and Nick Morris in for Leicester at number 2.

So now it's 2 Lions v 3 Bees! Plus 9 guests. Some good riders on show but despite being told otherwise by the promoters and press officers involved, it's hardly a Leicester v Coventry showdown with two fierce local rivals battling it out for the old East Midlands Bowl is it?

I'm sure I made this point before - that three of the Bees 1-7 are injured....

Just hoping that the weather holds off for Sunday's meeting between the lions and Coventry. But not looking very hopeful at the moment. It should be quite a tasty meeting with the rider line up

Already been cancelled due to bad weather and not sure if they can re-arrange it yet again if the rains do fall again this weekend. Hope not.

Also the meeting arranged for net March the 9th is something that Leicester can be proud to be holding it is the Ben Fund meeting for injured riders that is betweek Tean GB and the rest of the world a good one to start the season with.

The promoter of this meeting Paul Akroyd has stated that" He has been to Leicter a few times, I think it is a great choice of venue. This is a lovely set up in a good position in the country and a purpose built stadium. It is clean and smart. What you could call a proper modern stadium " nice when someone praises your home stadium. Lets look forward to 2014 what ever the outcome.

We should sing the praises of those who brought Lions speeway back to Leicester. Keep up the good work
