Recommended Posts

No wonder , hardly anybody posts on here any more , can't we get back to something interesting like which section of the BSPA site the new sponsor announcement is on , I'm sure Hurricanes can go at least another 4 pages , then once cornered he can wheel out the old anti Hemsley /Leicester jibes

It would be nice to see on the Lions web site what is actually going on at BP. They have told us about the new sponsers and the new Kelvars. But still the most imortant issue has not been mentioned and that is who is the last rider or who are the last 2 riders if Jason Doyle fails to get his Visa.

We are now in Febuarry and thje new season will soon be upon us. So why all the big huss huss ?????.

And are we having a team manager or not. Be a little unwise in the Elite League without one. !!!!!

I am sure by now the powers above know all the answers to these questions.

Presumably Speedway Star is where you'll find anything more and even then whatever "news" is released will be carefully limited.

Doyle will only ride for Leicester next year Somerset have just confirmed.

This should hopefully confirm him as an EL only rider in future and prevent him from doubling down. It was ludicrous that a rider with his EL average was permitted to continue riding in the PL these last few years by virtue of the fact that he beat a cut-off!

Jason Doyle's return moves closer to a solution

The doubts surrounding the return of Jason Doyle to ride in the UK are now diminishing as there is a glimmer of hope that he may be allowed back into the country to work. Two weeks after signing to ride for Leicester it became known that Doyle’s application was turned down which left the club in a quandary as to the best course of action to take. Leicester decided to wait and see what developed rather than panic and look for a new number one and their wait appears to be paying off.

Promoter David Hemsley who has been championing Jason’s cause had this to say : “I have been in constant contact with Jason since it was first known that his Tier 2 (Sportsperson) application had been declined and have also been liaising with the UK Border Agency and the BSPA in an effort to bring the situation to a satisfactory conclusion for all parties. Discussions are still ongoing and progress is being made towards allowing Jason back into the UK on a Tier 5 (Temporary Worker – Creative and Sporting) Sponsorship. In such circumstances caution is the key word but we are doing everything possible and hopefully I will soon be in a position to confirm that Jason Doyle will be leading the Lions in 2014.”

Good news. But the bit about DH "championing Jason's cause" and "liasing with the UKBA and BSPA" sounds a bit in contradiction to the "leaving it in the hands of Somerset to resolve - not our problem" slant of his reported quote in Speedway Star a week or so ago!

Taken from Somerset web page

The ‘Cases’ Somerset Rebels can confirm that their captain and number 1 from last season, Jason Doyle, will not be able to ride for the club in the up-coming 2014 season.

Doyle, along with a number of his fellow Australians, fell foul of a regulation concerning the issuing of a new visa allowing him to ride in the UK this year, but following intense negotiations between the speedway authorities and the UK Border Agency, the riders concerned, including Doyle, could be granted a temporary 1 year visa that would enable them to ride, but that does contain possible limitations, as Somerset promoter Debbie Hancock explains;

“Whilst the issuing of a tier 5 visa may allow Doyley to ride in the UK, he could be restricted to riding for just 1 club and not ‘double-up’ as had been the original situation as he was also going to ride for Leicester in the Elite League.”

“After much soul-searching on the part of both Jason and ourselves, it has been decided that he should take up the option of riding in the Elite League with Leicester rather than in the Premier League with Somerset.”

“Jason has qualified, by virtue of his 2nd place finish in the recent Australian Championships, for the Grand Prix qualifying meetings in 2014, which could ultimately see him lining up in the World Championship GP Series in 2015, it was felt that in order to give him the best chance possible to do this, he should be pitting himself on a consistent basis against top quality opposition and to do this he needs to be riding in the Elite League.”

“As a club, we do not want to stand in Jason’s way of trying to further his career, especially given the loyal service he has given to Somerset Speedway and the success he has helped to bring to the club over the years and we wish him and the Lions every success for the year ahead.”

“Obviously this meant that we had to find someone to replace Jason as our number 1 for 2014, and with this in mind we can announce that Ty Proctor will be joining Somerset in a double-up arrangement with Elite League Wolverhampton.”

“Having looked at the riders that were possible options for us, the main consideration was the fact that Ty would be missing the least number of matches due to any fixture clashes between ourselves and Wolves, which would help us to maintain a consistent line-up and not having to rely on using guest riders on too many occasions, plus with Ty coming into the team on a 9.22 average, it does mean that we would have a greater level of scope when the situation required us to use a guest rider.”

“I am sorry that as a club we have not been able to keep our fans abreast of the situation regarding Jason’s visa and whether or not he would be riding for Somerset this year, but it has taken some six weeks for us to finally reach this stage of affairs, during which time intense and sensitive negotiations were taking place, which could have been jeopardised if we had released any information.”

“But now the situation has been resolved and whilst it is not perhaps the one that we had hoped for, we can now put the matter behind us and start preparing for the start of the new season.”

I'm sure DH was modestly playing down his involvement before.

It's time the Uk Border Agency got their act together , the way things are going and if speedway in the uk is to continue , We will end up having to develop home grown riders Imagine that !! the British Elite League and Premier league full of British riders . it's a shame that some of the effort and interest by promotions and supporters in ensuring employment for a foreign rider , cannot be chanelled into ensuring some British prospects have a future in the sport .

When it became apparent that a Tier 5 visa would only realistically allow Doyley to race in one or other (not both) of the EL and PL, - and Doyley chose EL - Leicester would have become the more proactive promotion in any negotiations with UKBA. Simples.

I'm sure we all agree that point ,

On the UKBA site it seems that the tier 5 visa states that you have to work for one employer. The tier 2 doesn't state that.

Which begs the question - will Jason Doyle be allowed to ride as a guest on a tier 5 visa?
