semion
If we are lucky enough to get just one British rider out of the 20 who makes it through each season. Then British Speedway will be the winner. I admit its a massive IF. However I dont think we should blame the BSPA for attempting something new. Something needed to be done, and they have tried something. Lets give it 3 years, then judge.

For the benefit of British speedway, this introduction of home riders should have been done years ago. It is only when the promoters can see some cost saving benefit, for themselves, that they bring in this new rule. But what a pity the BSPA cant be more united in this idea and have a program that would allow a more gradual progression of young riders through the Premier league, instead of being thrown straight into the deep end. Still not knowing the format these riders will be expected to race, I am a lot more optimistic than you, in so much that, I think there will be far more riders succeed than you say. I don't think we need 3 years to judge the success of this belated idea. I think this is the 'kick -up-arse' that our sport needed, and I can only see positives coming from the inclusion of these new British Riders into the Elite league, and hopefully the Union Jack can once again, be a force on the world stage..... semion
If we get more than one rider per season who makes it to top, then that would be some going. I think it is an exciting prospect and am looking forward to seeing how it all pans out over the next few years.
YerRopes
I would have preferred the 20 NL riders to be given the equivalent opportunity in the PL with riders like Ashley Birks filling the reserve berths in the EL
semion
Ashley Birks and which other 19 Brits ? Birks has the chance this season as Cook, Worrall and Lawson had in the Prem League. The cream always rises to the top

The cream always rises to the top If Birks has had a chance so has Newman. Along with a few of the older riders like Lambert and Smart. Agreed, complete waste of an opportunity. If the bspa manage to get a sponsor for the league a percentage should be used for bringing on youngsters.. Somthing needs to be done 80cc works I've been there in Sweden and Denmark and seen it myself - if something isn't done the day is coming soon when Team GB will be doing the quilifiers to get into the World Cup had Tai decided to ride for Australia instead of GB were would our next world champion have come from take Tai and Harris out of the GB team what world class riders do we have ? Even USA through Billy Hamil are building for the future - 80 cc is the way to go and we/GB ignore it at our cost . PhilK
They also ride with and against a second string in two of their heats apparently, thus avoiding the top three I believe. I agree that the PL should be doing something similar, but I'm pleased to see our young uns filling reserve spots rather than Dryml, Gizatullin, Niemenen, Covatti etc. Thanks I was unaware of that Baggy, I don't take a great deal of notice of EL matters tbh. That makes it a little more interesting, and I couldn't agree more with your final sentence, have been saying this for years, same applies in the PL

I used the word HAS not HAD. If Birks starts this season well, then Clubs will be falling over themselves to bring him into the Elite league, As they did with Worrall, Cook and Lawson last season. I couldnt agree more about the likes of Smart, Lambert etc. I think they just had to thrown in a fee extra bodies to make the number up, and ability wise I guess they were as close as you would get, at this stage anyway. speedy17
Now the race format has been confirmed, think we'll lineup 1. Iversen 2. Porsing 3. Schlein 4. Lambert 5. Bjerre 6. Kerr 7. Rose
Bagpuss
Looking at the format I'd be tempted to swap Puk & Kenny at home and possibly the reserves too. Home number 5 could have the hardest rides and the home 6 the easiest.

Home number 5 could have the hardest rides and the home 6 the easiest. Personally I don't see that. Looking at positions 1 and 5 there not much to choose between them. They both have to ride against the opposing 1,3 and 5 twice. The biggest factor will be what order the TM places his riders.......

Bagpuss
It says that the top three riders ride at 1, 3 OR 5. I'd have thought it would have specified so if your top man has to ride at 1.
