screm
SWINDON boss Alun Rossiter is now seriously considering the position of second string Simon Gustafsson after another poor showing in the Robins 48-42 loss at King’s Lynn last night. The Swede could only muster three points from four rides and was beaten by two riders who have graduated from the National League this season, seemingly lacking the desire and passion to fight back. With little room for manoeuvre, Rossiter knows replacing Gustafsson could prove difficult but, now with time to think about the issue further ahead of next Thursday’s home clash with Leicester, he is only too aware making a change is something he must seriously consider. “I will have to change the pairings round at least and move Simon down to two but I must admit I’m very frustrated with him now,” Rossiter told the Advertiser. “There doesn’t look like there’s any fight there and I’m bitterly disappointed with him. “He has to do better, he’s on a new engine and there’s no excuse. “I’ll have to seriously look into it but, like I’ve said, there’s no magic wand and I’ll have to pull a rabbit out the hat. “I can’t let things carry on like that but it’s not good enough. “I don’t like doing this and I don’t like berating people, but I’ve supported him and he must do better. “There are one or two riders I think could do a job but it’s too early to do anything yet and I need to be in the right frame of mind. “We’ve got a week until our next meeting now and that gives me time to get my head clear and look at this.” Gustafsson has only managed five heat wins in 40 races since joining Swindon from Eastbourne, and has been beaten by fast track reserve riders time and again on his way to 44 points from 10 matches. Reliant Robin
Rosco's comments are laughable. It will NOT make a difference by swapping North and Gustafsson around because Gustafsson will still be riding against the oppositions 2 & 4. SACK THE WASTE OF SPACE AND BRING BACK KENNETT! Granted it wouldn't be any worse, but it certainly wouldn't be much better! Signing Kennett would be like admitting the Playoffs aren't going to happen this season....at which point I'd much rather see a new, young rider brought into the Club with the future in mind. We're one rider short of being a pretty handy side home and away - 4th spot isn't out of the question looking at the meetings we've had....but need to start picking points up quickly. 5 points from our last 3 away meetings - people would have taken that going into them, it's just the manner in which we've dropped a couple of points that is the problem. Chalkie
Agree as long as SG goes I think we could win the play offs we got a point at Lakeside and We threw away wins at Lynn & Wolves and we won at Coventry and that is with 5 riders v 7 riders. Agree Gater. Looking at the numbers from last night it was a solid display from 5 riders but we all know that there are two problems in the team, one being a fast track reserve and that is insoluble, the other being Simon Gustafsson. Having been to a Swedish Individual meeting at Hammarby last year, I saw 16 Swedes 'competing' and I wouldn't have given houseroom to any of them, including Zetterstrom who won it. They all seem to have lost it and give up as soon as the first bend is over, when behind. I can't understand what has happened to Swedish riders, they used to be top but it is patently obvious that they are not good enough for the British League. We have absoluetly zero chance of winning the league. We are a 6 man team because of the draft and will be all season. No doubt we will get some good results through the season but we will also drop some shocking points too. Thats the nature of our team. And the fact you think signing EK will make us title winners makes me wonder what you are smoking. brewer
You need to stop blaming the draft for signing the likes of klindt and sg. Your draft picks are no different to bv, leics, poole, Eastbourne or lakeside one providing the other not and I for one would rather see brit youngsters having a go than journeman foreigners such as the above. Shock, horror. Rosco looking to change 2nd strings more often than Poole change reserves!!! It must be that 'winning mentality' that is so frowned upon............!!!!! To be honest to say Gustafsson is showing no fight, raises the question why he was signed in the first place?! Its not as if he's been showing much fight for the past 2 years or so!!! stratton
I like Kennett ok he is not everyone's cup of tea but he will do a job.Was i disappointed in him last year personally i was not did people exspect that much more? for me he was often the scapegoat covering over the cracks in our team. What are people's opinion of the Draft system? and what is Pearson on about Kerr he is not a draft rider. For me it is not working the public are getting shortchanged the likes of Garrity,Kerr,Jacobs,Ellis (ect) would of all of got there chance in time because they are good anough.I want the likes of those riders getting the chance but not riders who are put out of there zone out of there depth this product is not worth 17 pounds to watch EVERYWEEK.

It gets boring saying it but the draft should have been 10 riders if Birks/Auty/Howarth level and 10 like Worrall, Blackbird, Nielsen etc. No one would have complained then. My issue is with seeing riders who can hardly turn it and are 5 bike lengths down going in to bend 1. As Sid rightly says its not VFM this year.
pointsmeanplayoffs
You need to get down to the Norfolk Arena and watch #teamlewis!!! Niether of them had ridden EL before this season (yes Kerr did have a couple of guest bookings), and they are mixing it with the second strings every meeting. In fact, I would say that some of the most enjoyable racing this season for the Stars has involved our two FTD riders (and young Lambert). The crowd love it seeing their young stars making a difference, it's great stuff!!! Basically, the criteria for the FTD riders was clear at the start of the season, and KL got a good deal as they have invested in youth development for years now. Whilst I feel for Swindon and the problems with Josh Bates which hamstrung them to an extent, the rest of other teams just need to get on with and quit whinging as it's getting boring. Instead of criticising and saying Kerr is too good to be a FTD rider, you should be applauding him as an up and coming BRITISH rider who's making things happen at his local team.

I havent once complained about KL, Poole, Lakeside etc having a strong reserve. You put the time and money in with these lads and you deserve the payback of that. Just think it was a quickly thought up money saving scheme. But with more thought this would have been something 99% of fans would embrace. Hopefully its changed next year to exclude the no hopers and get riders like Birks back in the EL. As Orion says our problem comes from the fact our 2nd draft rider has been seemingly unable to turn the bike around a corner. Thats a rider in the elite league unable to turn it. Its not fun to watch at all. Edited May 15, 2014 by thecoombdog

stevebrum
I get worried that some of the draft riders are going to get lapped. The majority are well on the pace. In the main that is just a fallacy.
