BuzzCagney
The thing that worries me the most is the stadium will go the way of Reading. Drove past it the other week, they shut it demolished it and walked away. No new stadium and the old site just left. Reading could have carried on there for another few seasons. If they demolish the Abbey will it get rebuilt ?Hate to say it but Reading were in such a hole financially its highly doubtful they could have gone on. And I equally hate to say it but we need to get behind our Club as a town too for fear it'll go the same way as our much missed chums from along the M4. It honestly saddens me that we'll not go to Smallmead ever again. Due to the good job done by fans in 2006 the Council were made very aware of the need to see a new Stadium built before all the houses are allowed to go ahead. I believe they will be allowed to build some before the new Stadium in order to part fund the new Abbey, but they certainly won't be building them all. As to noise, well, the Council very much see it as part and parcel of the towns recreation and sports amenities so I wouldn't worry too much about any noise complaints. YerRopes
Was wondering if young Morra's tweet could possibly relate to his (ex) position at Somerset.. No doubt someone from Swindon will enlighten us within a few months.. Very poor PR from Swindon as usual We're only the loyal customers...get your act together Swindon

SCB
Still no news on Nick then from anybody???There is no news. He signed months ago. Do you ever wonder why promoters hate the internet? This is why, someone has basically started a rumour that Nick is off elsewhere and youve all propagated that rumour. There's nothing other that a Facebook status to base this on. You can often read people's Facebook statuses how you like.

Always enjoyed the short trip to Smallmead. So easily accessible, nice tidy track too. The last few years the crowds were very poor though. One year when Swindon won there 3 times in that season, Robins fans made up the majority of the attendance on each visit. Good memories of gathering over by the pits with all the Swindon fans. There was even the odd 'war cry' I seem to recall!

But the stadium at Reading wasn't going to be mainly speedway, it was supposed to be a mixed casino and greyhounds/speedway stadium. Stadia UK procrastinated so long that Reading Council granted planning permission to another casino close-by and Stadia U threw in the towel. The land has now been allocated to something else. I can't see any scenario where they would want to build a new stadium in Swindon and potentially jeopardise tens of millions of pounds worth of house sales, which is where the real money is. I went to Smallmead alot over the years, when prepared and not a dust bowl it was a lovely track i did see some very good racing over the years.I always enjoyed the 3TT with Reading/Oxford it was great when you had a morning meeting and then another one at night great days i do miss going to Reading now a great loss to our league. EnglishRoundabout
The last morning meeting I went to at Smallmead was 2007 Sid. Blazing hot day. Reading's top 3 was Hancock, McGagowan (who was useful in those days before he went downhill fast) and Zagar. Swindon won with Adams and Ulamek scoring well. I went to the first and last meetings at Smallmead. Sad day when it closed.
hagonshocker
Not quite as simplistic as scb put it(apart from his use of the term propogated) but as far as Swndon are concerned we have 6 announced riders signed and one unnanounced but soon to be confirmed signing which will not be Dakota North...so we have 7 signed and raring to go I went to Smallmead alot over the years, when prepared and not a dust bowl it was a lovely track i did see some very good racing over the years.I always enjoyed the 3TT with Reading/Oxford it was great when you had a morning meeting and then another one at night great days i do miss going to Reading now a great loss to our league. You can often read people's Facebook statuses how you like. If anybody started a rumour, it was Morris with his facebook posting. He had already been dumped by Suummersset (spelt in a west country accent) when he said his signing might anger many speedway fans. His signing for another PL club could not anger any fans as he does not have a club, making it easy to surmise that the anger might be caused by signing for a different EL club. It worries me that Poole have not announced a full line up & with Morris' connections in that area, it would cause a right rumpus after the Miedinski debacle of 2012.

He didn't say anything about signing. He said: "Big news coming gonna be some upset speedway fans but have to do what's best for myself." As SCB said, Morris posts something vague on Facebook and suddenly people are making up all kinds of conspiracies around it.

You may well turn out to be right...but the Adver has had their doubts too (see below).. http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/sport/10896551.Doubts_emerge_over_Robins_rider_Morris/ I don't think it's asking too much for someone to clarify the situation..

YerRopes
There's nothing in that Adver story other than speculation about the Facebook status. Andy Warren who wrote the story is usually fed news from either Rosco or Swindon Speedway.. This article may well be a 'load of guff' but do you know that for sure ? Whatever the truth, the PR from the club just gets worse...
Lioness
Who are the only fans he is most likely to upset with having only an EL team place? Could it be that another PL club is dropping an already signed rider and fans favourite to accomodate him in their line up? Could it be that he has elected not to ride PL but to ride in Sweden Denmark and Poland and base himself in one of those countries? In fact just as accurately it could be that he is about to be the first Aussie to go to the moon? When I saw his status it never occurred to me that it referred to Swindon tbh. I still dont, but thats only my competely uninformed opinion. I feel people are reading something into a comment that just isnt there but again its only opinion. Its a shame it has all blown up into this though as it could damage the relationship between the supporters and the rider when there could be no reason for it. PR doesnt exist in speedway though unfortunately or all this could have been put to bed
65Sarge
Final signing being announced in tomorrow's Adver apparently? It's usually up at 5.30am, so I will be checking in as soon as I hit my desk about that time!
