noggin
Liked the old tape nudging, those were the days, proper commentary too, no gibbon on speed.
Halifaxtiger
On a positive note, I thought last Thursday's meeting had in it everything that is good about speedway. Good track leading some cracking racing. Some top quality presentation - Clive Fisher really does give you the impression that he is there for your benefit rather than the other way around, the live music was a top idea and the remainder of the music was pretty good too - and a referee - Stuart Wilson - determined to keep the meeting going. I have been to a fair few meetings this season at a fair few tracks but as a package that was just about the best.
BuzzCagney
Liked the old tape nudging, those were the days, proper commentary too, no gibbon on speed. ah yea, when I saw him nudge, ok, crash the tapes I thought 'whoops, he's out!'. Then I remembered this was back in the days when speedway was about entertaining the fans and allowing a bit of brinkmanship on track. Was there anything better than seeing a rider psyched out into riding through the tapes?

Need to bring some of the old days back, i know people say you shouldn't look to the past, but where speedways concerned I think we should, unfortunately with the blinkered self interest which is rife nowadays we have a cats chance in hell.
65Sarge
I just discovered footage of the 1984 16 Lapper at Ipswich ( no prizes for guessing the winner ) on YouTube. I know this probably isn't the place for it but figured it was worth putting it here lest it gets overlooked elsewhere.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dnRgHIoI9k I have just got round to watching this and thoroughly enjoyed it, it certainly brought back many happy memories for me. What I found most refreshing was the obvious friendship and respect when Sir Phil effectively wiped Jon Cook (not Phil's fault) out and they just shrugged their shoulders and shook hands, how sport should be.
Ravingmad Robin
Good win tonight. Got to keep it up as not many meetings left now. Can't afford any slip ups with it still being so close.
Chalkie
The results involving Coventry yesterday may have gone in Swindon's favour-let's hope the weather is kind over the next couple of weeks and that Kenneth Hansen's form continues! I am beginning to believe that we can make the play-offs-hope so! By the way well done Leicester!

I am beginning to believe that we can make the play-offs-hope so! By the way well done Leicester! You're not going to beat Coventry, it's Eastbourne you need to beat. If anything, Coventrys dodgy "form" could give Eastbourne a point or two at Brandon and put you out!
mdmc82
Swindons main concern could be the guesting their riders are doing. As Coventry (Barker) Kings Lynn (NKI, Rose) Poole (Shamak) injure can change everything. North guesting again tonight, this time for Poole Grieves guesting at Belle Vue. Agreed we do not want them injured while riding for someone else or knackered.

You might not be thanking Leicester if they have good guests when Swindon have to visit them with no Worrall and no rider higher than 16th available on the draft list to cover him. At least they won't be able to use Cook against you

thecoombdog
Andy Warren, formerly of the Adver, is part of a new venture to cover Swindon sport. Website is www.swindonlinksport.com. Im sure those of us who read the adver will agree the standard of speedway coverage has gone downhill since he left so im sure this will provide us with better coverage. mdmc82
RESERVE Steve Worrall insists he will be fit to ride for the Robins against Coventry on Monday despite crashing while riding for Edinburgh last night. Worrall pulled out of the Monarch’s victory over Sheffield after coming off in his first ride, suffering bruising to his neck and shoulder in the process. The reserve was due to ride for Edinburgh at Rye House tonight, rather than for the Robins at Leicester, but told Link Sport he will be fit for the crunch meeting with the Bees. “I’m fine, it’s a bit sore and I landed on my top half pretty hard but it’s not too bad,” he said. “I won’t be riding this weekend and will be resting up so I will be fine for Monday.” Robins boss Alun Rossiter is still looking for a reserve replacement for Worrall tonight, with original choice Brendan Johnson pulling out after originally agreeing to ride. Rossiter’s options are extremely limited, with Worrall somewhat surprisingly sliding down the draft list and nine meetings taking place today across the country.
