Robins 2014

Don't see any joke there. Its as its been said from the get-go. No knocking down of the old stadium until the new one is in place.

If that doesn't happen the whole development will be halted. The Council put that in as a stipulation after representations from fans who

had witnessed other stadiums being razed on the simple promise of a new one. That won't be happening here.

Wish we could get the council to agree to same thing with Coventry :(

Using the old programme format the home number 2 finished all his heats by heat 10 while the home number 5 had only completed 2 heats. No format will be perfect.

Yes but he had an ample chance at riding riders of his level heat 8 winnable this format does seem to be rather unfair on some more than others.

Looks like the same pits as today for the away team sidney

I know i am taking the mick a bit,"ORLOV " but if? or when? it is taken down i will shed a tear.It has been a big part of my life loads of great memories i love the track and when prepared is up there with the best of them.I just hope we don't end up with a pidley size track i suppose this is PROGRESS i can't say i am happy about it but time moves on.And odviously that stadium is past its sell by date but the actual track isn't though. A track the same size of Somerset would be good as about as big as you're going to get for a new track.

Could you see the bogs sidders? They were ancient then! ;)

They still have the same bog paper in them!

I reckon the straights are too long at Blunsdon. Would much rather the more oval shaped tracks similar to Somerset, Peterborough, Sheffield and Scunthorpe.

Have to disagree ER that is what made our old BL very special all different shapes and sizes and different tests for a rider. If we have a track like Somerset nowt wrong with that an excellent track but not as good as the Abbey.

Sid, I think the Blunsdon track has changed over the years (several attempts have been made to flatten the banking) but that aside, I remember Ashby regularly driving up the inside of an opponent and executing a perfect pass.

Nowadays I can't think of many that ever pass up the inside. Bomber Harris maybe? Nick Morris once or twice last year. In my opinion, there's not the passing there used to be, although I will say, its still one of the fairer tracks still around.

Do many pass up the inside nowadays, whatever level very rare Ashby was like you said a master.I think the Abbey over the last few years has not always been prepared great the weather has had a big hand in that though it has to be said.

Love that clip :)

I for one will miss the Abbey track, perhaps the straights are unusually long, but that's part of what makes it a great track, a bit of thinking combined with bravery, not just wide open and slide around a big egg.

I have had the pleasure of watching many masters since the very early 70s and still think if prepared well it one of the fairest and best race tracks around, but as for the back straight bobs, well that's a story in their own right.

Have been privileged to see alot of great riders ride at the abbey,as you say such a fair track.Three meeting's that stick out for me are the Big Silver Plume meeting all the England v USA tests ( awesome gates) and my favourite were the New Zealand v Sweden test matches.
