Sheffield 2014

Recommended Posts

That is utter rubbish . What other sport will the custodians of a club openly disscuss club matters and fans concerns in a bar or on the terraces after the event is over for the day . You obviously have a personal grudge against Dave Hoggart and are using this forum to stick the boot in . I've found him very approachable and knowledgable and he has always nodded hello in my direction whenever i have been at Sheffield supporting Glasgow or at any other meeting where we both have been at . I just hope he is not lost to our sport .

Couldnt agree more, hope you ends up somewhere soon, and he wasnt a friend just someone who you could talk to, and agree or disagree with

My post 1044 - I was told 5 names; 4 have been correct, the other 1 unnamed so far.

Today's Sheffield Star:-

Sheffield’s axed boss is offered roles.

David Hoggart could be in line for a dramatic move to one of Sheffield’s Premier League rivals after leaving Owlerton.

The Tigers co-promoter, who played a major role in pulling together the club’s new consortium, has been axed by the club who say they want to do things their own way. Four clubs have made contact with Hoggart - two from the Elite League and two from Sheffield’s league.

He said: “I’ve been touched by the amount of people who have been in touch and it has made me realise how many good friends I have.”

On his Owlerton exit, he added: “I’m disappointed my services are no longer required and it would have been easier to accept had there been some discussion. Currently I am too upset to make any further constructive comment and would prefer to maintain a dignified silence.”

Tigers consortium member Peter Mole has paid tribute to Hoggart, who has been with the club for over a decade either as promoter, manager or sponsor.

He said: “David has been a loyal servant of the club, working tirelessly with Neil Machin during some difficult seasons. He played a big part in bringing the consortium together, which made this situation difficult.

“We are working hard to take Sheffield to a brighter a future, and everything is positive. Whilst David has been a big part of the management here over recent seasons, we now have our own ideas.”

Wouldn't be a surprise if one of the clubs interested was Berwick IMO.

When you tell fans to go support another club when having a different opinion to them is not a way to run a business and i was suprised with Machin letting him get so hands on to be honest.

only 1 promoter of sheffield speedway has ever told me that in my 40 years of attendance... and it ain't hoggy. mind you he had put his money were his mouth was so he was entitled to do so !!!

only one person connected with Sheffield Speedway has told me that my money was not wanted, and it wasnt a promoter, however he does like the sound of his own voice, and he made sure that everyone knew on Wednesday night, by announcing it, that he was giving his time for nothing, he was lucky i had to pay to give them my time

If the new promoters do read this thread, they need to keep a close eye on the security. Last season I was threatened by one of them for standing on a yellow line, & when I complained to the head of security, he justified it by saying that I had smirked at him. The same numpty had earlier put me in the casino car park because he was on his mobile phone & wasn't paying attention to where he was sending me.

That is what happens when you give a dick head a bit of authority, power goes to their head.

Can't even understand why they need security at Owlerton, other than to tell people (usually first-timers or visiting team supporters) they can't stand in the yellow box area, what a welcome, just put some signs up and save the money paid to security.

Probably mandatory to have them. I'm sure if we had the choice they'd probably not be there.

they are nothing to do with the speedway,as such, they are stadium security hired by the casino/stadium owner dave allen (ex swfc chairman). anyone who knows him/his ways will understand that the security people mirror his ways

The security is only needed in the car park, first to politely park paying patrons in the correct part and secondly to prevent vehicle crime.

They've got radios so if they're required (in the unlikely event) to sort a drunken riot when the pork sandwiches come on sale in the Panorama room, they can be summoned.

Unfortunately they seem to have plenty of muscle and too little brain, from the sounds of the experiences some have had!

Unfortunately the security people [gorillas] at Sheffield belong to the owner of the stadium and are not needed at a speedway meeting. They seem to think they are dealing with football type fans and are a complete pain, one even asked my 56 year old husband if he wanted a fight because we did not move out of the yellow marked area quick enough,we were waiting for our granddaughter aged 12 to come back from the toilet,we have never been back to Sheffield since that happened two years ago,

Never had issues with em personally. Probably because we're well out of the way of em on the 1st and 2nd bend! But hearing things like that clearly shows they're all brawn no brain. What rational thinking person thinks that's an appropriate way to talk to anyone? Such a shame the stadium has to have amateur security as its clearly let down the place with some of the responses on here.

I had a similar situation myself, coming back from the bar with drinks in both my hands stopped in same area, admittedly was not offered a fist fight but a simple polite request to move would have sufficed rather than the abuse I got.

Also witnessed them holding up a coach full of supporters trying to get out of the stadium because the coach had not parked completely in the correct position, again the abuse thrown at the coach driver was not warranted.

Have to agree with this thread on the draconian security measures at Owlerton. Was down for the PLRC last summer and searched for alchohol by some mindless moron at the gate and then moved on later because I was supposedly blocking a fire exit by standing on some steps. A clear example of people of limited intelligence employing their own ilk.

Sounds like they may be traffic wardens in their day jobs..

Don't have traffic wardens in Sheffield any more - PCSOs' now and they daren't say 'boo' to a three year old, plus they don't go out in the dark!

Like I said if they stay out in the car park and prevent car crime - OK, that's what I pay my £2.00 for.

awww so sorry but like the new promotion, they found out Hoggy just likes to think he is a main player as he plays with other peoples money, they found him out and did the right thing and booted him out, And to add i am only ever grateful to Machin who put his money into this great club and now the new promotion also.

Sheffield Speedway will be a much better place now for many fans who like to distance themselves from promoters instead of becoming their friend and like you above being bitter once your friend has been found out and kicked out.

When you tell fans to go support another club when having a different opinion to them is not a way to run a business and i was suprised with Machin letting him get so hands on to be honest.

I'd never deny that I count Hoggy as a friend, but I can say for sure that I would have made the same comments even if I had never met him.

The fact that you can't even give him credit for being a major player in the continued existence of Sheffield Speedway suggests that your opinion is far more subjective than mine.

It should be relevant; because if the Rotherham Advertiser article was correct a key member of the consortium is running Sheffield's biggest rivals. Not necessarily a problem but if what I have read is correct there is a certain lack of integrity over the way Hoggy's departure has been handled.

I agree. After all, you wouldn't want a drug baron or someone like Plymouth's ex promoter involved.

Other than that, though, I think Spinny is right. What has happened with Hoggy is shabby to say the least (and hopefully not a sign of things to come) but what matters most is that the Tigers will come to the tapes this season and that they have an attractive line up.
