4thbender
As a supporter who turns 64 next month, I am delighted to see that the new promoter is only half my age. Let's hope that a young, fresh approach will be successful in transforming speedway in Sheffield from the "sport of granddads" into something that will once again captivate and inspire the young.

RS50
They had the Gold cup on live at the stadium and have the bar open. They ran the same day once and it was a total mess. Not sure if you are referring to the Cheltenham Gold Cup horse race, but if you are why would an event 150 miles away, and a different sport, make any effect? Because people might want to stay at home and watch it on TV? Same as a World Cup football match, etc.
Tigerite
Not sure if you are referring to the Cheltenham Gold Cup horse race, but if you are why would an event 150 miles away, and a different sport, make any effect? The stadium hosts a yearly event in the restaurant and corporate facilities for the Cheltenham Gold Cup Day as well as other major events in the sporting calendar. Info on this years Cheltenham event is here: http://www.owlertongreyhoundracingstadium.co.uk/cheltenham-festival-of-racing We had press and practice on same day as the Cheltenham Gold Cup day in the past and it didn't work too well so the club have taken the correct decision to move P&P back a week when the speedway will have full use of the stadium once the BAGS (afternoon greyhounds) meeting has finished. Ariel75
From today's Sheffield Star. Barnsley based Damien Bates is to hand in an application to become a club co-promoter at Sheffield. Bates, 32, will work alongside Owlerton boss David Hoggart who pulled the new consortium together to take over from Neil Machin. Former Newport promoter Peter Mole, a dentist in the West Midlands, is part of the group along with accountant and photographer Simon Parker. And Bates has revealed how it’s an amazing turn of events after he first watched Sheffield at the time Machin rescued the club in 1992. He said: “My Dad took me to Owlerton when Neil had first bought it, that was the first time I had been to watch Sheffield as a kid. As a group we have a lot of enthusiasm, we have some fresh ideas and we are happy to listen to the fans – they’ve already given us some good feedback on social media. “We are going to revamp the race jacket, we are looking to changing the music in our presentation and will work tirelessly to get out there and promote the name of Sheffield Speedway once again. Neil did a fabulous job, but things weren’t easy over the last couple of seasons. We need to inject some passion and desire back into the place. “The club will apply for me to become a promoter, I’m pleased about that because I’m based locally and David is extremely busy with other roles he has right now, so I can help out. I’ve got the time to put into the role, we are already raising funds for the new air barrier and things seem to be heading in the right direction.” The deal was completed earlier this week and members of the new consortium will meet supporters at a meeting tonight at the nearby New Barrack Tavern. Hoggart will retain his role on the sport’s management committee as well as co-ordinating the major events and working on his Sheffield duties. British great Joe Screen was unveiled as the new team manager last month in an exciting move for the club. Facundo Albin has had his racing license suspended by the Argentinian authorities following a 'bust up' with an official. Facu is ready for ride. federation send again the license-

I really do hope its a good year and am glad it all running. Just heard season tickets on sale at £300.00 (£235.00 for over 65's). Not sure if you get Tiger tokens or half price car parking this year.

Tonshel
Season tickets again magnificent value. £300 Brilliant. 14 league meetings & 3 league cup and a Knockout Cup - 18 x £15 = £270. Throw in a few meaningless meetings and you could save ££££'s. Once again relying on progression into later rounds of competitions, not guaranteed. Shame that there's no real incentive to buy one. Totally Agree, I think the new promotion have made a really positive start good team/manager, better PR only to be spoilt by the finance team who cant work a calculator and understand season tickets are usually there to encourage long term support and also benefit the customer with a discount. I will hopefully be there for the Newcastle meeting and be a regular attendee ,

Think that its great that they have kept the price to £15 but must agree the price of a season ticket dosent seem attractive unless I have missed something

spin king junior
Berwick S/T £199 Sheffield £300 One represents great VFM one does not Don't try and compare Berwick & Sheffield, the cost to run each are a world away.
proud panther
What about Panthers £250, you can compare that, & it includes parking.
spin king junior
What about Panthers £250, you can compare that, & it includes parking. Which is a much better comparison. One I can't really argue with. But again, we don't know the cost to run each club. I guess season tickets can vary in importance from club to club, and with how much changes Sheffield has had and had to pay out for, it's perhaps not the most important thing to tackle. But if Sheffield could get it down to a price like Peterborough's, then you'd see a lot more people paying out for the whole season. Hopefully something for the future though.
proud panther
The money is paid in advance, which is good for any business, & if results go against you, you will still have most season ticket holders attending meetings. Seems common sense to make season tickets good value at all tracks in my opinion.

Seems common sense to make season tickets good value at all tracks in my opinion. Matters who it attracts. If its just the die hard regulars who go weekly, then it's lost money and you're not really going to get the fickle fans buying season tickets, even if its a decent saving. But there's obviously the pro's to having well priced season tickets and hopefully its something that's introduced!
